Our beloved mother, Teresa Vidaurri Vasquez, age 85, passed away on December 31, 2023 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon surrounded by her loving husband, Fernando, and her four beautiful children Fernando Jr., Martha, Hector, and Leticia.
She was born in Laredo, Texas to Guadalupe and Antonia Benavides Vidaurri on February 20th, 1938. She attended Ursuline Academy and graduated in 1956. Upon graduating from high school, she worked for many years at the old Mercy Hospital under the Sisters of Mercy while attending Laredo Junior College. She went on to earn her degree in Education from East Texas State University while raising her children. Upon earning her degree, she became a Vocational Education teacher and taught for many years Office Education at Nixon, Cigarroa, and United High School. She retired after 28 years of service.
“Teresita” as she was affectionately called, was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear friend. She dedicated her life to her family and selflessly gave her time to those that came to know her. She was a devout Catholic holding her God in her heart to the end. She was a loving wife to her husband, Fernando, who recently both celebrated their 63-year Anniversary. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and looked forward when they would come to visit. There was never a time that her house was empty of family.
Having been a strong woman of faith, one of her greatest fulfillments in her life was serving her Lord with the Cursillo Movement at San Francisco Javier Catholic Church under the spiritual direction of Father Manente, who she dearly admired. She sacrificed many early Saturday mornings by attending the “Sabatinas” at different local catholic churches.
Mom was a dear friend to so many people that crossed her path. She looked forward to her monthly Birthday Club with her Ursuline Academy friends who kept in touch for so long, which was something to be admired by such a group of beautiful ladies. Mom loved her home and her beautiful garden, when not inside you would find her sitting in her patio admiring the flowers and birds, who she claimed would come to visit with her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Guadalupe and Antonia Benavides Vidaurri and her in laws Salvador and Josefa Vasquez.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Fernando and her children Fernando Vasquez Jr., Martha Cavazos, Hector (Norma) Vasquez, Leticia (James) Silva. Her beautiful grandchildren Fernando Vasquez III, Patty Ann Vasquez, Martha Chamberlain, Melissa Morales, Christopher Silva, Luther Silva, Sydney Silva, Linda Saldana, Crystal Ballesteros, and April Rizo. Her great grandchildren Camila Chamberlain, Dominic Chamberlain, JohnPaul Chamberlain, and Joaquin Alejandro Morales and her dearest friend Mrs. Rosario Cuellar whom mom considered as a “sister” to the very end.
The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to Redeemer Hospice who provided compassionate care for our dear mother and her wonderful caregivers Fina, Sandra, and Lucy.
Pallbearers will be Nicolas Chamberlain, Joaquin Morales, Christopher Silva, Luther Silva, Jesus Rizo, and Mike Ballesteros.
Mom will always be remembered by her beautiful smile, friendly approach, and her encouraging words of spiritual wisdom. We Love You Mom.
