Obituary

Slyvia Medrano before Sylvia Medrano after

Our loving wife and mother, Sylvia Edna Medrano, 72, born September 25, 1942, entered into eternal rest on January 15, 2015, with her family by her side.  She went beautifully and peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord.  Her life was devoted to her family and friends.  Edna was a person whose smiling eyes and infectious laughter brightened up everyone she came in contact with.  She was always there to lend a helping hand or speak a word of encouragement.

Actively involved in several organizations throughout her life, Edna relished the time she spent with her family and friends.  A loving mother and friend, Edna was quick to volunteer her time and energy and did it with a warm smile and caring manner.

Edna is preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Ernestina Sanchez, sister: Elma Sanchez.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 54 years of marriage, Guillermo “Sonny” Medrano, her loving children: Melissa (Gerardo) Medrano Valle and Guillermo Medrano III (Nichole), her grandchildren: Joseph William Medrano, Victoria Valle, Lauren Ashley Medrano, siblings: Jesus Sanchez, Hector (Gloria) Sanchez.

The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, January 18, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services where a rosary will be recited at 7:00pm.  Funeral services will be Monday, January 19, 2015, departing the funeral home at 8:00am to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Funeral mass will be celebrated at 8:30am.  Interment will follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are by Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services, 1320 Trey Dr. Laredo, Texas (956)723-3611.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.freddickey.com.

Dearest Sonny and Family, I cannot remember anyone with more spirit and love of our Class of 61! She was an icon, and beloved at Martin, and by all our classmates until the day she passed on to the loving embrace of our Lord. How I will miss her. God bless you, Charlotte Compton Larson

Juan Manuel and I want to present our condolences to the Medrano Family. Edna was a great friend since our High School days at Martin High (Go Tigers). Let us remind you that the Lord look around his garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your weary eyes and said "Peace be Yours." It broke our hearts to loose you, but you didn't go alone. for part of us went with you the day God called you home. Rest In Peace

I will always remember Edna as my life long friend and classmate and the glue that held our class of 61 together. Our bicycle rides as young girls. All the band practices and events, dances and how she always made everyone feel welcomed. It was not meant to be that we see each other before your passing. My flight reservations to see you were made for Jan 22nd. You will continue to be in my prayers and we will meet again with our Heavenly Father. Goodbye for now. Your friend, Norma
