Obituary

Rodolfo “Speedy” Gonzalez, Jr., born May 23, 1950 in Monterrey, Mexico, passed away on January 10, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his father Rodolfo Gonzalez.

He is survived by his mother, Elsa Gonzalez; his children, Isaac Gonzalez and Rodolfo (Rudy) Gonzalez, III; grandchildren, Isaac Gonzalez, Jr. and Scarlett Gonzalez.

He is further survived by his siblings, Ricardo Gonzalez, Elsa Gonzalez, Gabriela Gonzalez Laurel (Ricardo) and Selina Gonzalez; nieces, Andrea Gutierrez and Alexa Gutierrez; nephew, Samuel Noah Jossen.

Speedy graduated from St. Josephs Academy in 1968. As his lifelong friends know, Speedy not only loved sports but was a gifted, natural all-around athlete. He showed that natural talent whether it was swinging a golf club, going up against taller opponents for a driving basketball layup, or a smooth handling all-star little league and pony league standout short stop.

Speedy’s father, Rodolfo, Sr., never missed a chance to see his son playing competitive baseball, a trait he inherited later in life when he closely followed Rudy’s exploits on the golf course. Speedy will also be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his witty and broad sense of humor and the ability to care and make friends with anyone he encountered.

The Gonzalez family will gather on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A chapel service will begin at 11:00 am recited by Father Hector Flores. Inurnment will then follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Celebrating the life of Speedy join us at Fred Dickey Funeral Home reception room for a luncheon to share stories and remember a life lived to the fullest.

Our deepest condolences on Speedy’s early passing. Speedy was a good man; he was honest & hard working. His never give up attitude was boundless. Speedy was generous & helpful to his fellow man; he would take his shirt off his back to help another. These Christian qualities that he exemplified will help us endure life’s tribulations. May he Rest In Peace. Sending you our prayers and caring thoughts. ErnestA. Garcia and Elvia Ruelas
