Obituary

Reynaldo E. GarzaReynaldo Garza After

Reynaldo Enrique Garza, 80, fondly known to his children as Deri, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Laredo, Texas to Faustino and Maria Cardenas Garza. After losing his father in World War II in 1944 in the Battle of Saint-Lô and his eldest brother, Humberto, in the Korean Conflict in 1950, Reynaldo became the patriarch of his family at the tender age of 14.  At age 17, with the consent of his mother, who was later designated a Gold Star Mother by the Department of Defense, Reynaldo enlisted in the US Army in search of his brother whose body has yet to be recovered.  Reynaldo proudly served as Sp3 (T) in the Company “A” 127th Airborne Engineer Battalion.  He was a founding member of Laredo Glass Shop, Inc. and upon retirement dedicated his life to his life-long passion of cattle ranching at Las Ilachas Ranch.

Reynaldo is preceded in death by his parents, Faustino Garza and Maria Cardenas Garza; his siblings Humberto, Ernesto, and Rosa (Ignacioᶧ) Guerra.  His surviving siblings include Sylvia (Rodolfo) Mendiola, and Norma Cuevas. He is also survived by his caring and dutiful wife of 57 years, Catalina Perez Garza whom Reynaldo endearingly referred to as Miss America, and his children Humberto (Myrna Leticia), Reynaldo Enrique Jr. (Luz María), Jorge Luis (Graciela), Ana Laura (Kevin) Partin, Rolando Daniel (Michelle), Alfonso Rene (Michelle Alexis), and Adriana Cynthia (Javier) Lozano.  Reynaldo was the proud grandfather of 22 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Surviving brothers-in-law include Roque (Saraᶧ) Perez, Humberto (Idalia) Perez, and Alejandro (Alma) Perez.

The family will receive guest Friday, June 10, 2016, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services.  A holy rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, located at 1704 Sandman St.  Funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am.  Interment will follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.  Full military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 59 and the Flag Fold Presentation by the United States Army.

Pallbearers include Reynaldo’s loyal sons Humberto, Reynaldo Enrique Jr., Jorge Luis, Rolando Daniel, and Alfonso Rene.
