Jesús Raúl Alexander

Jesús Raúl “Alex” Alexander Ruiz, 91 years old, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 20, 2013. Services will be held at St. Patrick’s Church this Tuesday, July 23^rd; visitation will be at 8a.m. and mass at 10a.m.

Born on July 23, 1921 in Baytown, Texas, Alex moved to Mexico City after losing his parents at an early age. There, he developed his artistic talent on his own by attending art academies and finally becoming an art director at an advertising agency. He formed a beautiful family alongside his wife Maria Teresa, whom he adored and loved unconditionally for 62 years.

His innate artistic ability along with his passion permitted him to capture the colors, landscapes, and traditions of the fleeting indigenous Mexican culture. His numerous works of art are a testament of his dedication, and his legacy lives on through his daughter’s art academy here in Laredo: “Alex’s Studio.” His artwork has been presented at exhibitions at the Laredo Center for the Arts, Laredo National Bank, and IBC in addition to many others in Mexico and Canada.

Despite his hardships, he became a true example of a righteous human being and devout Catholic. Alex was a noble man who shared his knowledge and wisdom with those who were blessed to know him, with an admirable sense of humility and optimism. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: catching the America soccer games, playing tennis, and appreciating home-cooked meals.

His wife Maria Teresa Fierro and his daughter Tere Alexander preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother George Alexander; his daughter Maru and Rodolfo Portillo and his sons Eduardo, Gabriel and Gerardo; and his grandchildren Jorge Arturo, Fernando, Eduardo, Enrique, Ricardo, Lorena, Regina, Priscila, Dafne, Luis Gerardo, and Jesus Javier. The family will be forever grateful to Dr. Diego Menchaca and Adriana Martinez for their constant dedication and care.
