On Holy Friday, April 18th 2014, Petra G. Barrera was called to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. She will forever be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and above all a beautiful friend. She took pride in her family and friends and made them the center of her world by always giving and never asking for anything in return. She stood firm in her customs, traditions, and above all her Catholic religion always giving us “La Bendicion” before we left or turning on “Una veladora” for any of us during times when we needed an extra blessing. She welcomed family and friends into her home and always made it a beautiful celebration by taking out her wonderful homemade “tortillas” or delicious rice, beans, and “guisados” she had just prepared. We will forever miss her laugh, hugs, birthday cards, prayers, and her afternoon ritual of sitting in her “Galeria” drinking her coffee and welcoming family and friends that happened to stop by to chat, reminisce, and simply appreciate life. We will always be grateful for the beautiful example she left for all of us to remember and emulate.
Mrs. Barrera is preceded in death by her husband, Teofilo Barrera, siblings: Jesus Gonzalez, Aqueda Trejo, and Valentina Gonzalez. Left to cherish and honor her memory are her children: Jose Luis (Diana) Barrera, Dora Eliza (+Blas) Arce and Francisco Javier Barrera, grandchildren: Michelle B. (Manuel) Gonzalez, Carlos Blas (Ethel) Arce, Jr., Jose Luis (Yzelda) Barrera, Jr., Jessica Eliza (Robert) Farias, Michael Gabriel (Vanessa Castillo) Barrera and Juan Alberto (Ludy) Arce, 16 great-grandchildren, other relatives and numerous friends.
