“I Did it My Way”
Omar Guevara
1952-2021
Today we celebrate the life of a rough and tumbling force of life. We bid farewell to a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and best-friend, Omar “El Centurion” Guevara, also lovingly known as “Tio Mochis” to his nieces and nephews. Omar was born in Gary, Indiana, on September 29, 1952, and was raised by his father, Alfredo Guevara Sr., and his mother, Maria Guadalupe Martinez-Guevara. Humble beginnings, strict upbringing, Omar would go on to graduate Martin High School in 1973. Driven, ambitious, Omar would go on to attend Texas A&M University and gig ‘em-self towards a Degree in Drafting Engineering. In 1977 Omar decided to leave a footprint in Laredo, Texas by opening Centurion Auto and Car Clinic.
The road would always tremble under his feet. Whether it was the rumbling of his Harley Davidsons, or the roaring of a Cessna airplane in the palm of his hands, the thrill of a kill shot on a perfect White Tail Buck, this thrill seeker would leave a legacy survived by his wife, Elizabeth Perez-Guevara, his children, Lizabeth “Sasa” Guevara and Omar “Nino” Guevara Jr., his granddaughters, US NAVY Sailor- Arizbeth Victoria Cardenas and Zia Nicole Guevara. This man could never rest without the mention that he loved all his friends, sincerely. He loved them, honestly. Omar would never leave this earth without all of you knowing he loved you very much.
This adventurous soul enjoyed traveling to unknown places with his True Love Elizabeth, fishing in the deep salty waters of the ocean, he’d enjoy his cigars, with a gulp of fine scotch, he loved big game-hunting from the cool temperatures of Texas to the freezing temperatures in Alaska. HA!!! but let it be known this man could stir the BEST Pot of Menudo and smoke one hell of brisket. He considered eating cabrito asado straight from the BBQ pit and a cold beer for fine dining.
Omar decided to spend his last days at home comfortably surrounded by family and friends. He made sure to comfort them by telling them “BEEN THERE DONE THAT “, he continued by leaving this world the only way he would (I DID IT MY WAY) next to Elizabeth AKA THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE!
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to: Dr. Andres Garcia Zuniga and his wonderful staff. To the SPECIAL Staff from Guiding Light Hospice – Rhonda De Valley for her quick and always loving service, Alejandra Lopez – Omar’s Personal Nurse his Guardian Angel, Sofia his CNA who was always so caring. To The Family Attorney Edward Castillio who went out of his way to personally handle Omar’s Last Wishes and Mrs. Martha Keiser who was there to witness Omar’s last wishes. To Ana Lila Perez his favorite sister-in-law (Loved you like a sister). Judy Aldape “You are family, call me DAD” and Jesus “Styles” Maldonado el otro hijo.
At the request of Omar, a celebration of his life will be held on July 29, 2021, at the Guevara’s Residence located at 8629 Puerto Escondido, Laredo, TX 78045. Family will welcome you at 5:00 p.m. and a Special Toast promptly at 7:30 p.m.
