Obituary

Michael Patrick Esquivel “Mike” passed away Friday, January 12 at Houston Methodist Hospital due to complications from a pulmonary embolism.  He was 51 years of age.

Mike was born December 16, 1966, in Laredo, TX to T.R. Esquivel and Patricia Esquivel-May.  He attended Nixon High School, and later St. Edward’s University.  After high school, he served honorably in the U.S. Navy.  Mike had a tremendous spirit and loved life and everyone in it.  He never met a stranger and was generous to a fault as he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He never failed to give time and an ear to a friend or stranger in need.  He was very compassionate and caring to all who knew him. His life and passion were his son and daughter. Mike is a loving son and brother who brought joy to so many.  He spent several years in Austin where he attended college and worked.  He later moved to Katy where he spent the last two years near his mother and brother.  He loved his nephews and nieces and attended many of their sporting events cheering and coaching them from the stands. Mike loved most sports and was a tremendous golfer and racquetball player. He cherished his hometown of Laredo, and all the friends he made growing up there.

Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. Teofilo Esquivel and Adelfa Esquivel, J Clayton May and Betty Sue May; his father T.R. Esquivel, and brother Teofilo (Tito) Esquivel (Edna Rodriguez); and cousin, Kristina R. Gonzalez Guerra.

Mike is survived by his beloved children Michael P. Esquivel (Mikey) and Amelia Esquivel (Mimi); mother, Patricia May; stepmother, Mary Esquivel; sister Patricia (Paul) Quinzi; brothers, Eddie (Claudia) Esquivel, Robert (Michelle) Anguiano, Jerry (Selina) Nuno; nieces, Emma Esquivel, Gabriela Esquivel, Isabella and Avianna Anguiano, Melody Nuno; nephews, Andrew and Ian Esquivel, Gerardo and Nathan Nuno; aunts, Graciela (Antonio) Gonzalez, Dr. Martha E. (Humberto) Villarreal, Rosa Daggs; uncle Alfonso (Pam) Esquivel; and many cousins that he deeply loved and respected.
