It was with much regret that my husband Rene and I learned of his aunt's passing. We were not informed of her death and I grieve for that. Maria was a wonderful aunt to my husband, myself, and our son, Adam. She was his first and always the best babysitter for Adam. Rene's family accepted me and my two older sons into the family as if we had always been part of it. Even his grandmother Jovita Silva, who spoke no English, was so kind to me. But Maria was the one I was most comfortable with, next to Paula, Rene's mother. I wrote her often when she moved back to Laredo and we talked on the phone several times. She was always so funny and full of life. I had never had that kind of family and I will always, and eternally, be grateful to her. If I had been able to drive myself I would have gone to Laredo to see her. I am sure she is welcomed with open arms by God, her parents, her husband and all who ever knew her.
