Obituary

Lorraine DaCamara Humble, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2023.

The daughter of the late JB DaCamara, Jr, and Ofelia Garcia DaCamara, was born on February 24, 1929. Lorraine’s great-grandparents were JB DaCamara, Sr., and Emma “Muddie” DaCamara. She loved her family’s rich heritage dearly and loved spending time, particularly at the family ranches. As a child, she enjoyed riding horseback and watching her father tend to his cattle at her mother’s family ranch, Rancho Los Ojuelos. The time spent at the DaCamara Ranch gave her many hours of swimming, helping her grandmother tend her gardens, and rocking their “worries away” on the front porch.

After attending Martin High School, Lorraine married young and was blessed with two children, William W. Wise, Jr, and Deanie Lorraine Wise. During the early years, her young family lived a military life. She cherished this time because she learned many life lessons and made wonderful friends with whom she still communicated. She returned to her hometown after living in San Francisco, CA, Springfield, IL, and other Air Force bases.

Later she moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she met the love of her life Ralph Humble. They lived in Universal City until his retirement, then relocated to Harlingen for a time and returned to Laredo.

Lorraine loved her family and enjoyed reminiscing about the past and how each of them had grown into their current lives. Lorraine enjoyed visiting with her family, sharing their family legacy, the history of Laredo, and the nearby ranches with the younger family members, who found her a wealth of knowledge on the subjects.

Lorraine, a very patriotic individual who was passionate about her country and politics, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a lineal association to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence.

Lorraine also loved her dear furry friends, Max and Daisy, that kept her company day and night and were her joy and comfort.

Lorraine is survived by her loving daughter, Deanie Wise, and her three children, Kimberly Anderson, and her husband, Dan, Chad Shroyer, John Shroyer, and her devoted grandson, Jordan Wise. Also surviving her are survived by four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her caring son William W Wise Jr. and her sisters JoEmma Leyendecker and Diana Salido, and her husband, Ralph Humble.

A special thank you and prayers of acknowledgement are extended to her daughter-in-law Rebecca and her husband, Robert P Gutierrez, for their loving care and assistance throughout the years. The family would also like to thank Norma Martinez, Ana Laura Rodriguez RN, and Beti Trinidad for their kind attention and friendship.

The family will have a private ceremony at the DaCamara family plot on Friday, June 9, at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, Lorraine requested donations be given to Laredo Animal Protection Society – LAPS, located at 2500 Gonzalez Street, Laredo, Texas, 78040.

Gary and I send our deepest condolences on the loss of your mother . Lorraine and my mother Lamar Gallagher were good friends throughout the years and my Grandmother Lila Sanchez Kahn was a good friend of Ofelia DeCamera her mother, your grandmother as well. They came from the old laredo families that shaped the history of our community. Lorraine’s infectious laugh and high spirit is something I will always remember. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sincerely Mary Lamar Leyendecker

Lorraine was beautiful in every way. Her animals were her beloved friends. She was a long time supporter of the Laredo Animal Protective Society and it's animal shelter. Personally our families were neighbors at different times through the years. We would smile that even our cemetery plots were next to each other. Lorraine told me she would sometimes sit on the little bench and recall our friendship through the years. Now she will wait for us in the best neighborhood of all. God Bless You Dear Friend -Jennie L. Reed on behalf of LAPS

I wanted to extend my condolences with much sympathy. Tia Lorraine was that lady that just energized any room she walked into. I was especially proud to have her name as my middle name. My mother was very proud of that too and reminded us throughout our lives how much She meant to her. She was loved by Bill Swisher(her cousin) and Rosa Maria, my parents so much, and she definitely left a admired mark in my heart. My mother in law Nena Salido shared many beautiful memories as well. May your days be peaceful during this time knowing she is amongst her loved ones that have gone before her. Love, Jessica Swisher DIez Barroso and Ramon Diez Barroso
