Obituary

In loving memory of Laura Mackay (August 13, 1968 – August 7, 2023)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laura Mackay, a beloved mother, sister, and daughter. Laura was born on August 13, 1968, and her warm spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. She departed this world in Laredo, Texas, on August 7, 2023 and is leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Laura’s unwavering love and devotion to her two sons were evident in all that she did. Her role as a mother was a testament to her kindness, strength, and endless support. She leaves behind a legacy of nurturing and guidance that will continue to shape the lives of her children.

Laura’s strong bond with her brother and mother was a source of comfort and strength throughout her life. Her family was a cornerstone of her existence, providing her with the love and support that sustained her through life’s challenges.

Laura attended Spring Hill High School in Longview Texas and created many long-term friendships that lasted until her final days.

While Laura’s physical presence may be gone, her memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Norine and Paul Sugden as well as Clemente and Consuelo Martinez and her father Ron Sugden, whose spirits surely welcomed her into the beyond.

She was survived by her sons Austin and Cole Mackay, her mother Cande Sugden and her brother John Sugden as well as numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

In this time of sorrow, we find solace in the memories we shared with Laura. Her legacy will forever remind us of the power of love, resilience, and the lasting impact of a life well-lived.

May Laura Mackay rest in eternal peace.

I loved Laura and will never forget her so many sweet letters that always brightened my days. She started writing to me when she was just a little girl. We had so much fun together and she a special way of making you laugh. I will miss all those sweet things, bit I will always have all the memories we shared. I know she loved her family so much especially Austin and Cole. She was so proud of her brothers, John and loved his family as well. My daughter and Laura were like sisters and like to do things to irritate me, but all in good fun. Laura is in Heaven with so many of our family. Her dad, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles and especially Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Love you Laura and am looking forward when I see you again. Aunt Dorothy ❤️❤️❤️❤️

May God wrap His loving arms around the family during this difficult time of sorrow. Laura was my first friend in Spring Hill. We spent many hours playing at each others homes over the grade school years. So many memories with so much laughter. Cande and John, I’m so sorry for your loss! Hugs and prayers for your family.

There is no way to list just one memory or even decide which one to put if I could. I have memories that go back to when I was just a little girl in preschool. I counted to 100 for the first time to her. I remember watching her do high school homework at my kitchen table while she would babysit me and my little brother. I remember hanging out at her house as a teenager and just feeling like I had a sister. Throughout the years, Laura would come visit for sometimes months at a time and we just laughed and coped with life through our shared humor that you just have to be part of the family to understand. She loved me and my children and left such an good legacy with them as they just remember how she would be at the bus stop when they got off, would make them food, or just sit with them in their little world with whatever they were playing with. She was my big cousin, my friend, my sister, and my “home”. I will miss her dearly for the rest of my life and am so grateful that I had her for so many years. My true unconditional love story. I probably share more inside jokes with her than anyone on this planet and not a day goes by that I don’t think of something and immediately want to call and tell her. Lol She wasn’t perfect but she was amazing and truly a devastating loss for our family.
