Obituary

Mrs. Juanita “Juany” Martinez was called to her heavenly home on Monday, December 12, 2022. She passed peacefully in her sleep.

Juany was born and raised in Laredo. Juany’s home was usually most decorated during her favorite holidays. Plenty of decorations adorned her home during Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her sister Maggie and brother-in-law Ramon. They often enjoyed coffee and sweets together, mainly for Ramon.

Some of her other favorite pastimes with family were enjoying a good game of loteria or bingo. She had a special place in her heart for stuffed animals and collected many.

Her dream was to have a small ranch with animals. When she married her husband, Feliciano they were able to make her dream come true. They had many animals and that is where she made many beautiful memories. Her caring and giving nature always had her feeding her family and friends.

She last resided at Las Alturas, where she felt at home and developed many friendships. She enjoyed her therapy time and developed good relationships with her caregivers. She played Loteria there once, only because she wanted to play with cash, and couldn’t. Her joy and sense of humor allowed her to make friends easily.

A beloved mother, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend will leave her mark of generosity and kindness in the hearts of her family and friends alike.

Left to cherish her memory is: her daughter, Yesenia (Fred III) Dickey; son, Luis Angel (Blanca Estela) Dueñas; grandchildren, Charlie, Luis Anthony, Aletze, Fredy, Angel, and Felix Edwin; sister, Maggie (Ramon) Palomo, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Rosa Luna; her brother, Felix Luna Jr.

May she rest in peace. The family appreciates the expressions of sympathy and love from those blessed to have been able to share in her life journey. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Luis Benavides, the dedicated staff of Las Alturas, and Nurses on Wheels for their care in Juany’s last days.

The family will be receiving guests on Thursday, December 15, 2022, in the Angelus Chapel at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Prayer Service will begin at 6:00 pm. Cremation will be held at a later date.

Juany’s memory will go on through her lesson of generosity to those in need. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate the donation of a stuffed animal in her memory that will be donated to local children’s home in her honor.

Ms. Juanita had laughter and a smile that brightened your day. I loved all our conversations about many things, and she made sure you knew you were special and I am grateful for her presence in my life. She loved her family more than she could put into words. I know she is at peace, away from the troubles of this world, resting with our Creator. My deepest condolences to her loved ones. May you be comforted by the beautiful memories you have of her. I have many memories of Juanita as a young girl and of her family as she grew up. My mother, Maria, and all of my brothers and sisters visited Tia Rosa and Tío Felo as we were growing up. Please accept my condolences, I will miss her dearly, and I will continue to cherish her memory.
