Obituary

Josefina Gonzalez Bentiez, 68, entered the gates of Heaven Thursday, December 4, 2014.

Mrs. Gonzalez Bentiez was born in Sabinas, Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on March 20, 1946.  She immigrated as a young girl at the age of 8 and was in school in Laredo through junior college.  She then transferred to Texas Women’s University where she got her Bachelor’s degree and later went on to get a Master’s degree in Education.

She spent a great portion of her life educating the youth of Laredo, Pasadena and San Antonio, at different stages of her life, both as a teacher and librarian.  There are numerous students that she taught and touched their lives and all will remember her dearly.

Aside her love to provide an excellent education to her students, she cherished the love, affection, and time that she spend with her loved ones and her friends.  She was supportive of school sports and was a permanent staple in most of the John B. Alexander games.  Not only did she stay young at heart by doing that but she fulfilled her son’s Victor’s love of sports and kept him happy.

Fini was the first one at the family functions and was the one who would walk around and talk and mingle with everyone at the party.  She was there when anyone needed something.  Her home was the official party place for anyone who needed it.  A babysitter, a baker, a cook, an ear to hear you out, a shoulder to cry on, an amazing Mom to her children and anyone else who needed a Mom, a loving and giving Grandma not only to her grandchildren but to all the other children.

Josie, Fini, Josefina, whatever you knew her as, was an amazing soul that left a print in all our hearts.  Love poured from her heart of gold and NO was not a word in her vocabulary and she would go out of her way to help and please everyone.  She also joined the social media craze and was Facebook fan.  Never ranted or complained, instead she liked everyone’s status and always added positive and loving comments.  She gave and gave and expected nothing in return.  She will be greatly missed by everyone but the piece of our heart that she took with her is replaced with the hope and assurance that she now shares the glory of God in heaven.

Mrs. Gonzalez Bentiez is preceded in death by her husband, Christino Bentiez, her parents: Manuel V. Gonzalez and Aurora E. Gonzalez.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Patricia (Mike) Orr, Becky (Paul) Wommack, Tina (Terry) Brim, Jo Ann (Gino) Crawford, Christian (Marissa) Bentiez, and Manuel Victor Bentiez, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brothers and sister:  Juan Manuel (Aurora) Gonzalez, Tomas Jaime (Delfina) Gonzalez, Jose Homero (Guadalupe) Gonzalez, Juanita (Vicente) White, Roberto (Teresa) Gonzalez,  Maria Aurora (Ramon) Juarez and Rosa (Alfredo) McCabe, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will be receiving friends, Sunday, December 7, 2014, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services where a holy rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm.  A memorial mass will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 10:30 am at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church.

My deepest sympathy for Ms. B's family. Our loss is heaven's gain. I am unable to be with you this day but I am there in spirit and words cannot express the sorrow I feel. May looking back on the beautiful memories help comfort you. These memories will become a treasure forever. May God embrace you and and give you strength to live ahead. They say that when it rains when someone has passed it means that they have gone straight to heaven and I truly believe that Ms. B is resting comfortably in God's loving arms, is the happiest she's ever been and is watching over all of us who love her, miss her and will never forget her. I am see her and all I can see is her smiling, beautiful face and she's dancing. Until we meet again, Ms. B. All my love, Emma
