Jose “Joe” Moreno, 68, joined his Savior on Sunday, November 26, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Joe was born in Laredo, TX and graduated from Martin High School in 1968.  In 1972 he joined the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ranger, performing his duty during the Vietnam War.  Upon returning to Laredo, Joe completed his teaching degree and began working for UISD as a history teacher.  During this time, he also started working at Sears in the paint department, a part-time job he held for over 20 years.  39 years of his life he devoted to teaching, most of them at United High School, as social studies teacher and department chairperson, where he performed his duty with much love, dedication and commitment to his students, his colleagues, and his school.

Joe dedicated his life to his family and career.  He was a loving, compassionate and caring father, husband, friend and educator.  He will be missed by all who loved him and cared for him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jose and Paula Moreno, his brother and sister, his wife of 39 years, Maricela and numerous relatives.

He is survived by his wife Ursula, his son Jose (Elizabeth), daughter Valerie (Jaime), and his four grandchildren: Jaime, Lily Ann, Jose and Abigail.

Tomorrow,November 29,2017 many of us past and present teachers will gather at Fred Dickey Funeral Home to say good-bye to a wonderful friend and Colleague, Joe Moreno. I will forever hold his memory very close to my heart. I taught at United High School in Laredo, Texas for 12 years under the leadership of this great man, who was our Dept. Chair. Joe was the type of person who was always ready to defend his department whenever situations came up. He was always ready to serve his colleagues in any way he could. Joe, I will always remember you and your entire family, who came to mean so much to me and my family. It was an honor and a privilege to have worked with you. May you Rest in Peace my dear friend.
