Obituary

Jorge Alberto Salinas entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 14, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was 87.

Jorge was born on March 2, 1927 to Jose A Salinas and Marianita Guzman Salinas in Laredo where he was raised.  He attended Martin High School but was drafted for Military Service during his senior year.  After serving his tour of duty he received his diploma and attended Laredo Junior College. Later he enrolled at Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos.

Jorge served in the United States Army 78th Infantry division; European Theater, stationed in Berlin, Germany during World War II. He was awarded the European Theater Ribbon; American Theater Ribbon, Army and Occupation Ribbon Germany; Victory Ribbon; Marksman Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.

Jorge was a descendant of a well known Laredo family. His late grandfather, Jose Salinas, was Webb County Sheriff in the early 1900’s. His father, Jose A. Salinas, served as a deputy sheriff upon his return to Laredo after serving in World War I.

Jorge was employed at Laredo Implement Company for many years and at Mercy Hospital for 5 years. When LISD opened the Vocational Education Program at Nixon High School, he became the General Metals Instructor for 22 years. He retired from that Position in 1994.

Jorge was preceded in death by his parents: Jose A. Salinas and Marianita Guzman Salinas; brothers Jose A. Salinas and Ernesto Salinas.

Left to treasure and hold dear his memory are his wife, Olga T. Salinas, only son and loving daughter in law, Jorge (George) A. Salinas, Jr. and Adriana E. Salinas. His “Special Blessings,” his grandchildren: Lynda Elise Salinas, Jorge (George) A. Salinas III, Lorynn Elizabeth Salinas and Joseph Anthony Salinas, brother, Robert (Irma) Salinas, sisters, Dora Salinas Rodriguez and Elsie Salinas Ridgeway, nephew, Jesus A. Torres, Jr., niece, Maria Hilda (Tom) Boutwell, other beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Fred Dickey Funeral and Cremations Services, 1320 Trey Drive, where the family will be receiving guest from 8am to 11am. A chapel service will commence at 11:00am. Interment will follow immediately at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 59 and the U.S. Army Flag Detail from Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX.
