JW Parks went to be with our Lord and Savior on the evening of 8/2/17 peacefully, and surrounded by his family. JW was born 2/27/26 in Crosbyton, Tx., and had aged 91 years at the time of his passing. He lived much of his younger life in the Rio Grande Valley, and at the age of 17, in 1944, joined the United States Navy. He served 2 years in the South Pacific. In 1949, JW married Pauline Brown. He began working at JC Penny in 1946 and in 1952 was transferred to Laredo where he settled, and grew his family. JW worked 44 years at JC Penny and retired in Feb. of 1990. He was also an active member of First Baptist Church Laredo where he served as a deacon for 23 years.
JW Parks was a faithful Christian, loving husband and father, grandfather and great grandfather, diligent worker, and a man who served his family and community in all he did. He was a leader who held respect from those who knew him, not by demanding it, but by earning it through an admirable, quiet kindness and respectful sternness when necessary. JW Parks was a role model who didn’t set out seeking the title, yet provided its perfect illustration: A person looked to by others as an example to be imitated.
JW was preceded in death by his second son Richard Parks, and grandson Wesley Brieden. He is survived by his wife Pauline, children; John III and June Parks of Pittsburg, Tx; Denise Brieden of Laredo, Tx; Cindy Penuel of Laredo, Tx; and Kenneth and Lety Parks of Laredo, Tx. He was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren, with 2 on the way.
