Javier Zacarias Laurel

Javier Z. Laurel, 80, went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2013, after a short illness at a local hospital in Laredo, TX. He was surrounded by his wife, Sylvia Laurel, and other family members.
Javier was a patriot and proud Korean War Veteran having served in the US Navy, followed by 10 years in the US Coast Guard many of which were while he was stationed in Hawaii where he continued to live for many years after his discharge. In 1988, he returned to Laredo, his hometown.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Servando E. Laurel Sr. and Christina Laurel and his stepson, Charles H. Carroll Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sylvia Laurel, children: Terry L. (Robert K.) Punihaole Jr. of Virginia, Carlos David (Tiffany) Perez of Arizona and Lydia (Polo) Chaires, grandchildren: Robert K. of Hawaii, Aaron K. P., and Bryan Javier Punihaole of Virginia, Chelsea and Whitney Perez, Lauren Palacios and Marco Polo and Anissa Chaires, 4 great-grandchildren, brother, Servando E. (Rosita) Laurel Jr., nieces, nephews other relatives and friends and his precious companion and pet poodle, Judy.
The family will be receiving guests on Sunday, January 5, 2014, from 5pm to 9pm at Fred Dickey Funeral and Cremation Services, 1320 Trey Dr. Laredo, TX 78041, where a rosary will be recited at 6:00pm. Funeral services will be on Monday, January 6, 2014, from the funeral home via cortege to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church where a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00am. Full military honors will follow immediately at the City Cemetery Veteran’s section where a gun salute and flag detail will be conducted by the American Legion Post 59 and the U. S. Navy of Kingsville, TX.
The family would like to express their utmost gratitude to the Laredo Medical Center’s 2nd floor doctors and nurses and to the surgical unit for all their special care and attention.
