Obituary

Hermelinda Ceja Gonzalez

April 30, 1937 – July 14, 2020

On July 14, 2020, Hermelinda C. Gonzalez, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and a friend to many.  She was a 1955 graduate of Martin High School.  In 1956, she married “el amor de su vida,” Jose Armando Gonzalez and lovingly raised four daughters.

For years, she was an active member of her high school 1955 Class Reunion committee.  In addition, she, along with the Ceja’s and family, could be found every Saturday at Danny’s having dinner and listening to music.  Throughout her life, she was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her family. Lately, her pastime was watching and feeding the birds and her turtles while listening to “musica del recuerdo.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio Ceja and Maria de Jesus Muñoz de Ceja; her husband, Jose A. Gonzalez; and her eight siblings, Estela Ceja Medina, Carmen Ceja, Jose Francisco Ceja, Carlos L. Ceja, Ernesto Ceja, Gustavo A. Ceja, Alberto J. Ceja, and Maria Luisa Ceja Rodriguez.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Norma Leticia (Ricardo) Romo, Maria Antonietta (Rolando) Gutierrez, Elva Araceli (Dora Peña) Gonzalez, and Angelica Maria (Rolando) Michelangeli, and her nieces (as honorary daughters), Sylvia R. Elizondo, and Martha E. Reinecke; her grandchildren, Maria Antonietta Gutierrez, Jose Armando (Evelyn) Gutierrez, Jesus Rolando (his girlfriend, Roxana Ortiz) Gutierrez, Jose Gerardo Romo, Gabriella Noelle Romo, Joseph Brandon Michelangeli, and Victoria Isabella Michelangeli.   She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, friends, as well as, her little pet chihuahua, “Cotitas,” who will greatly miss her.

The family wishes to profusely thank Drs. Nimchan, Regalado, Deliz,  along with the staff from ICU B, third floor of Doctors’ Hospital, and St. Jude’s Home Health.

Knowing Hermelinda’s caring nature and the current health concerns in our community, the family is holding private funeral and interment services.  We kindly invite you to join us through live stream Friday, July 24, 2020 starting at 5:00 pm, provided by Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services.  Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.

Funeral arrangements are by Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services, 1320 Trey Dr., Laredo, Texas 78041 (956) 723-3611. For your convenience, you may leave your condolences to the family online at www.freddickey.com

Norma, Marietta, Elva & Angie on behalf of my family, our sincere condolences on the loss of your mom...To my Tia, every single memory I have of my trips to visit my Laredo family has you in them. My vivid memories of your backyard patio on Convent St with my Tio cooking on his grill and for you family was everything ! You always had all your favorite canciones playing in the background and it just didn't get any better than that. Regardless of the miles between us, please know you were thought of often. I am so thankful to have known you all my life. Thank you for all the childhood memories. Rest in peace Tia !

It was an honor getting to know a woman who loved her family with an intense ferocity unparalleled even by the wildest of storms, who fought for her family as hard or harder even than any fighter in the ring, and lastly, who always had something to teach through a song or wise saying...she knew so many just out of the top of her head. I will miss her quick, sharp wit and her stories about her youth especially about when she met her husband. Every time she spoke about him, her words with filled with such love and her voice trembled with such longing that knowing she is reunited with her love is my greatest consolation. May Hermelinda Rest In Peace in Heaven with all of our loved ones.

Tia Hermelinda, I am so thankful to have known you and to be able to call you my family these last 14 years. You were a remarkable woman, mother and matriarch. I'm so glad we were able to see you this past fall as you loved seeing our sons, Lucas & Liam. They brought you so much joy and it always made me happy to walk around your home, admiring all your family pictures as you kept every card and picture we sent over the years. Your presence and spirit will be deeply missed, but we will keep your memory alive by remembering all the love and laughter that was shared. We love you! Jessica & Fernando Elizondo
