Obituary

Guadalupe Gonzalez Before Picture093

I thought that I would miss you so, and never find my way.  And then I heard the angel say “She’s with you every day.”  “The sun, the moon, the wind, the stars, will forever be around, reminding you of the love you shared, and the peace she’s finally found.” Unknown.

Our Beloved “Lupe” who was a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt, 74 ended her journey here on earth on March 19, 2018.  She came from humble beginnings and became a successful educator for L. I. S. D. . She graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor’s of Education degree from Texas A & I in Kingsville and later on she also received her Master’s Degree from the same institution.  She later took courses and obtained her Superintendent Certificate.  Her first years as a teacher were at Buenos Aires Elementary and Central School.  She then became a teacher at J. C. Martin Elementary.  She continued to succeed as an educator and eventually became one of the youngest female principals for L.I.S. D..  Her first assignment as principal was at  Milton Elementary and then she followed that with becoming principal at Ochoa Elementary.   She retired from education after having a stroke.  Even though her illness limited her physical movements it never dampened her spirit for life, travel or adventure.  She lived life to the fullest and anyone who knew her could not believe she had any physical limitations.

She enjoyed being a companion to her better half, “José”, the love of her life.  Together the two raised three children.  She instilled in her children the importance of education and how to succeed in life.  She was a doting grandmother to her only grandson and was very proud of his accomplishments.  She enjoyed traveling and she being the constant teacher made the trips educational for her children and grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Perales and Isabel Hernandez Perales and her brother Hector Perales (Marina).  Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 53 years, José Homero Gonzalez (Che), her daughter, Veronica Gonzalez, her son José Homero Gonzalez Jr. (Mary), her daughter, Claudia Gonzalez and her grandson, José Homero Gonzalez III.  She is also survived by Her brother, Juan Perales (Estela), her sister Trinidad Castillo (José) and her brother, Raul Perales.  As well as numerous loving relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank relatives and friends for the constant support, love, prayers and vigil during the last days of “Lupe’s Life”.  A heart felt “Thank You” to the ICU First Floor staff at Laredo Medical Center for the care and compassion “Lupe” received.  Thank You to my colleagues at Laredo Medical Center and “you know who you are” for your love and support.

The family will receive condolences on Friday, March 23, 2018, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services, 1320 Trey Dr with visiting hours from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm.  A vigil for the deceased and rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm.  Funeral Procession will depart the chapel on Saturday, March 24, 2018, to Mother Cabrini Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am.  Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery.

I met Ms. Gonzalez only once, at a masquerade party her daughter invited me to, and we chatted a bit. But I knew her more from the stories her daughter would tell me about her “ Lupe”. The lady never lost her spirit for life and was very much involved in the daily activities of her family. She leaves a grieving family behind but they have many good memories that will, in time, eclipse the pain of her passing. Godspeed on your journey Ms.Gonzalez....it was a pleasure to know you.

I am so sorry that I will be unable to be there with your family for the services. I am grateful that I was able to visit with Tia Lupe in December and am thinking and praying for all of you during this time. Please know that I am here whenever you need me. Love you, Meli
