Obituary

On May 21st, 2020 our heavenly Father called Gloria Perez Rodriguez, beloved mother, to eternal rest in His Loving embrace. She was 64 years old and a Laredo lifelong resident.

In 1974, Gloria proudly graduated from Martin High School. Gloria received her BS in Education from Texas Women’s University, in 1978, as a First Generation graduate. She spent her professional career as an elementary school teacher at Driscol Elementary in Robstown, JC Martin Elementary (Special Svcs), Bruni Elementary (1st Grade), Dovalina Elementary (3rd Grade) and K. Tarver Elementary (Dyslexia). After 33 years of devotion to hundreds of students, Gloria retired from Laredo ISD in 2011.

She was an active alumni committee member of the Martin High School Class of 1974. She enjoyed bingo nights, loteria gatherings, dancing, writing, gardening, baking, cooking, shopping, football games, traveling…above all she treasured life the most while surrounded by family and friends. Her contagious smile, tender heart and genuine friendship, will truly leave an emptiness in the lives of the storyline she begun.

Gloria is predeceased by her devoted parents, Hector and Consuelo Perez Jimenez.

Gloria will forever be cherished by her daughter, Christina Marie Medina; Son-In-Law, Raudel Medina; Father of Daughter, Jose Guadalupe Rodriguez; sisters, Raquel Garcia, Candy Rios, and Consuelo (Chelito) Larioz. She is further survived by her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many friends.

The family will be receiving guests Friday, May 29, 2020, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Holy Rosary will start at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services chapel. A chapel service will begin at 11:00 am.

So sorry for your loss Christina. Your mother was such a beautiful person inside and out. Growing up, I remember always being around your family, and Mrs. Rodriguez was so welcoming. Her smile was big enough to light up the entire room. She was kind and had a loving heart. I also remember going to mass at Mother Cabrini Church with you and your mother when we were younger. These are the memories I will forever cherish . She left so many memories not only with me but with many others as well. I will miss her dearly, but I know she’s angel lighting up the heavens above . I am thinking and praying for you and your family. My deepest condolences to you and your family. -Jacqueline Smith Jasso-

From our meeting first at Christen Jr High 7th grade and throughout the rest of our high school years, you have always been one of my most cherished friendship memories. Always happy with that ever present smile, ready to lend support when my jokes quite didn't ring funny. Always glad to see your familiar face as we moved our way through different classes, different years. So glad we reconnected again over the last year. You always have been and always will be "one of the good ones". My deepest sympathies to Rodriguez Family in your time of sorrow. Jesus Trejo, Class of '74
