On Friday, September 10, 2021, our beloved Gerardo Gonzalez entered the gates of our Lord. Jerry, as he was known by his friends and family, was born on September 16, 1973 in Laredo, Texas. He attended both Nixon and Martin High School.
He was a gregarious and an incredibly funny man who loved his country, as well as having a strong relationship with his faith. He had a big heart, was incredibly generous and loved putting smiles on people’s faces. Anyone who knew him recognized his infectious laughter which made him the life of the party. Jerry loved movies, especially comedy, sci-fi and crime. His knowledge of movies was impressive because he loved quoting his favorite lines to his family and friends. His passion for music was also extensive. Jerry could recite any lyrics and could tell you the name of the song. He was also an avid reader and particularly enjoyed true-crime stories. He fiercely loved his family, called his mother every day, and looked forward to family bbq’s especially when his all-time favorite football team, the San Francisco 49ers played. Every year, he looked forward to the start of football season and placed friendly bets with family members that his team would win the Superbowl. Jerry loved all animals, especially his furbabies, Rocco, Shadow, Lucky and Besty, all Jack Russell Terriers, which could cheer him up no matter his mood.
Above all, Jerry was charismatic, hard-working, and an excellent salesman. He dedicated 12 years of his life working for RDO Equipment. He was proud of his job and often shared his accomplishments with his family and friends by sending pictures and videos of his passion–selling yellow John Deere equipment.
Jerry touched many hearts and had many friends throughout his life, but he remained close to his childhood buddies, Eric Rodriguez and Wicho Arredondo, whom he considered his brothers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Francisco Gonzalez. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Sandra Lewis Gonzalez, his children, Jennifer M. Swisher, Kenneth J. Swisher Jr., and Joshua (Tyrah) Swisher; in laws, Marti and Duane Lewis; his mother, Julia Gonzalez, his siblings, Nora (Jorge) Mendoza, San Juanita Gonzalez, Gonzalo (Fela Gonzales) Gonzalez, Elsa Rebecca Gonzalez, Alma (Richard) Perales, Cheli (Eddie Jr.) Saldivar, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews who admired and dearly loved him. We are heartbroken, but it is comforting for his family to know that he is with his father in Heaven.
