Obituary

George Franz Brunner Jr. was called to God on Saturday, February 17, 2018, after a courageous long-term battle with cancer. He was 65 years of age. He was born in Laredo, Texas to Sara De la Garza Brunner. He attended St. Augustine High School and Laredo Community College. After college, he served in the Webb County Sherriff’s Department and later started his own business, GFB Land Development, where he worked until recent years. He was an avid basketball player, golfer and snow skier. He enjoyed traveling to Colorado and opened his home to many family and friends throughout his life. He had a tremendous spirit, compassionate and caring to all that knew him. Franz loved life and everyone in it right up to his last days. He was extremely generous to the point of fault, as he would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. Franz was especially witty and made those around him laugh; always the life of the party. Franz is preceded in death by his mother Sara de la Garza Brunner. Franz is survived by his wife Tammie Johnson and children: Jennifer Brunner Gonzalez (Felix), George Franz Brunner III, Margaret Brunner, Haley Johnson; Sisters Sonja Smith (Rene), Olga Garza (+Luis), Brother, Charles Brunner (Norma); Nieces Sonja, Alexis, Sara, Katherine, Clare; Nephew William; Grandchildren Felix III and Jake as well as great nieces, nephews, cousins and family members that he deeply loved.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 at Fred Dickey from 5pm-7pm, rosary will commence at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 10 am.

Franz, was always the guy at San Augustine with the great handsome looks as well as a remarkable ability to play basketball like no other. I had the previlage to know him and to be with him on a daily basis in high school. For a while I did not see him as life gets in the way, but I found out about his illness which made me very sad. God will always be with him and take the away the suffering he has gone through. The entire class of 71 will surely miss you, but will be with you in our hearts and soul. Your school buddy and friend. Cande Ramírez. My condolences for your entire family.

He is now rejoicing with his scout master in heaven. Rest assure that there is a celebration going on in heaven.
