Francisca Garza Cardenas, 96, peacefully joined our Lord on June 15, 2019, in Laredo, Texas, with family by her side.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 57 years, Ildefonso Cardenas; her parents Eulalio and Josefa Linares Garza; a brother, Oscar Garza; two sisters, Bertha G. Flores, Estela G. Olivares, of Lubbock and a sister- in-law Bertha Sandoval Garza.
Left to cherish her memory is her only child, Diana (Armando) Garcia. Also surviving her are two grandchildren, Debora (Juan Carlos) Sanchez and Marc (Gloria) Garcia, as well as seven great grandchildren: Nicolas, Samuel and Daniel Sanchez; and Steve, Sebastian, Lauren, and Mason Garcia.
Also surviving are her sisters, Zulema (Fernando†) De Llano, Rebecca (Frank†) Leon, Aurora (Oscar †) Cavazos and numerous nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Cardenas was born in Darwin, Texas and spent her youth at a ranch in Dolores, Texas, close to the coal mines which were in operation there. She was an excellent horseback rider. Her hobbies included reading, gardening and baking. She will be missed by her loving family.
The family expresses gratitude to the excellent staff at Regent Care Center and the dignified palliative care provided by Nurses on Wheels. A special thanks goes to Father Hector Flores who provided comforting spiritual support to the family.
The family will receive guests Friday, June 21, 2019, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Interment will follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Juan Carlos Sanchez, Nico Sanchez, Sammy Sanchez, Daniel Sanchez, Marc Garcia, Steve Garcia, Sebastian Garcia and Donato Martinez.
