Maria Felicitas Garza
May 26, 1931 – June 6, 2023
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Maria Felicitas Garza, 92, on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. She peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by her loving family.
Mom was born in Lampazos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on May 26, 1931. Her father was a rancher and her mother was a coutre seamstress and together lived a simple life. Although she lost him at the tender age of two years old, her widowed mother worked long, hard hours to ensure that she and her sister would attain an education. Her keen observations of her mother’s work ethic and strong core values enabled Mom to apply this profound wisdom, deep rooted spirituality, the value of an education and a sense of obligation as the matriarch of the family. To her, being a wife and making certain that her children accomplished their educational goals were the driving force of her existence, and for herself, becoming a U.S. citizen was a great accomplishment. This enabled her to learn the great ideals this country was founded on.
In 1949, she married the love of her life, Isaias M. Garza, and together they raised ten children. Mom and Dad welcomed every child with open arms and provided a safe and loving environment so that each of us could thrive. Her incredible loving energy was also felt by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her daily routine (first to rise, last to bed) involved an incredible amount of work as she single handedly ran the household and proudly served three nutritious home cooked meals daily. As time passed and each of us graduated from high school and college, she would say, “Ya logre otro degree,” (I’ve earned another degree) for her children’s successes were her successes.
One of her favorite sayings was, “A mi me fue de perlas,” (I’ve had a splendid life) perfectly describes how content she was, for with God’s blessings, she accomplished her mission. Mom loved her life, cherished her family, and found joy in the smallest of things. May she rest in peace.
