Obituary

Maria Felicitas Garza
May 26, 1931 – June 6, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Maria Felicitas Garza, 92, on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. She peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by her loving family.

Mom was born in Lampazos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on May 26, 1931. Her father was a rancher and her mother was a coutre seamstress and together lived a simple life. Although she lost him at the tender age of two years old, her widowed mother worked long, hard hours to ensure that she and her sister would attain an education. Her keen observations of her mother’s work ethic and strong core values enabled Mom to apply this profound wisdom, deep rooted spirituality, the value of an education and a sense of obligation as the matriarch of the family. To her, being a wife and making certain that her children accomplished their educational goals were the driving force of her existence, and for herself, becoming a U.S. citizen was a great accomplishment. This enabled her to learn the great ideals this country was founded on.

In 1949, she married the love of her life, Isaias M. Garza, and together they raised ten children. Mom and Dad welcomed every child with open arms and provided a safe and loving environment so that each of us could thrive. Her incredible loving energy was also felt by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her daily routine (first to rise, last to bed) involved an incredible amount of work as she single handedly ran the household and proudly served three nutritious home cooked meals daily. As time passed and each of us graduated from high school and college, she would say, “Ya logre otro degree,” (I’ve earned another degree) for her children’s successes were her successes.

One of her favorite sayings was, “A mi me fue de perlas,” (I’ve had a splendid life) perfectly describes how content she was, for with God’s blessings, she accomplished her mission. Mom loved her life, cherished her family, and found joy in the smallest of things. May she rest in peace.

Preceding Mrs. Garza in death are her beloved husband of 72 years, Isaias M. Garza; her parents, Jesus and Petrita Lozano; her sister, Benedicta (Cesar) Gordillo; Granddaughter Marcela Gonzalez and Daughter-in-Law Barbara Garza.

Surviving her are ten adoring children: Zonia (Luis) Garza, Martha (Luis) Gonzalez, Myrna (Richard) LeBrun, Isaias Garza, Jr., Norma (Ramiro) Garcia, Irma Garza, Jesus Garza, Marissa (Hilario) Quiroga, Ricardo (Adelina) Garza, and Maria Isela (Gerardo) Cruz. Twenty-four Grandchildren: Luis (Erica), Dianne, Denise (Aaron), and David (Ana) Garza; Marty, Louie (Karla), Rob (Claudia), Jesus Jaime and Sebastian Gonzalez; Linda and Rick LeBrun II; Issy III, Karla, and Wayo Garza; Noemi (Rieck) and Ramiro R. Garcia, Jr.; Vanessa (Abiel), Kristina, and Eli Quiroga; Hannah and Sophie Garza; Carolina, Gabriela, and Gerardo J. Cruz, 26 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving her is brother-in-law Tomas Garza.

Pallbearers are Judge Jesus Garza (Ret.), Ricardo Garza, David R. Garza, Louie Gonzalez, Jr., Rick LeBrun II JD, Wayo Garza JD, Ramiro R. Garcia, Jr., DDS, Eli Quiroga III, and Gerardo J. Cruz.

Honorary Pallbearers are Isaias Garza, Jr., MD, Luis Garza, Sr., Luis Gonzalez, Sr., Richard LeBrun, Sr., Ramiro R. Garcia, Sr., RPh, Hilario Quiroga, Jr., Adelina Garza, EdD and Gerardo G. Cruz, PhD.

A special “thank you” to our brother, Dr. Isaias Garza, Jr., for his unwavering medical attention throughout the years and the guidance he gave us to better assist our dear mom. In addition, the family would like to thank Dr. Octavio Guzman, cardiologist, Dr. Eduardo Miranda and staff, and the many fine doctors, nurses, and staff at Doctors Hospital second floor and Intensive Care Unit for their compassion and commitment to our mother’s well-being. Also, we are grateful for the skilled nursing attention and physical therapy of Alfa Home Health Care

My heart is heavy as I write this. Sra. Garza and I had a beautiful relationship. Her grace as this English-speaking girl and Spanish-speaking matriarch are what I remember best about her. Our communications are something I will cherish forever. So loving and kind to me through the early years and beyond. She always greeted me with a special smile that said so much to me. Con todo mi corazon--TE AMO Sra. Garza! My love to ALL of the Garza family during this difficult time. She made the MOST out of each and every year she had on this earth. She lives on in my heart and I am grateful to have known her.
