On Thursday, October 31, 2013 our good Lord & Savior needed another strong disciplinarian to assist him in Heaven. Federico “Lico” Fernando Paez was called upon at the age of 82. Anyone that knew him, knows that he was a great sports activist. His greatest love was attending the University of Texas games.
Mr. Paez was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, and had been a life long resident.
Mr. Paez was preceded in death by his parents Jose & Teresa Paez; siblings, Jose Paez, Jr., Cira Recio, Catalina & Enrique Garcia, and Trinidad & Epimenio Palacios.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Teresita F. Paez; children: Federico F. Jr. (Berta) Paez, Jorge Paez, Debora Paez, Leticia (Clay) Parker, Roberto (Clarissa) Paez, and Gerardo “Gordy” Paez. Also, Raymundo III (Maru) Gonzalez, Loretta (Mario) Cisneros, Geraldina (Mike) Martinez, Haydee (Mike) Rangel and his godson, who he loved as his son, Alfredo Ruben Chavarria. Grandchildren mourning the loss of their “Coco” are Federico Fernando Paez, III, Franco Paez, Christopher Paez, Christina Paez, Austin Paez, Nicholas Paez, Mario Cisneros, Jr, Bruno “Trey” Mezza, III, Haleena Martinez, Ayden Martinez, and Eileigh Martinez, Miguel II, Matthew & his muneca de oro, Katelynn “Kiki” Rangel. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He graduated from Martin High School in 1949. While attending Martin. he was an active member of the MHS ROTC. He graduated from St. Edwards University in 1953. While at St. Edwards, he played basketball for the Hilltoppers. Lico dedicated 48 years to the Laredo Independent School District. He served as an Assistant Principal at Leyendecker Elementary School, Santo Nino Elementary School, Cigarroa High School ,and at his alma mater of Martin High School. This year he was inducted into the Class of 2013 Tiger Legends. He also dedicated & served for 30 years with Border Olympics. Many may remember him from all the games that he officiated. He was a member of the Texas Association of Sports Officials. He was a devoted parishioner to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mr. Paez enjoyed spending quality time with family and loved ones. He enjoyed traveling, jogging, and attending sporting events. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 5pm-9pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services, 1320 Trey, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm.
His family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Laredo Medical Center from ICU, especially Margarito Benitez and Kurt Cuellar.
