Tony was born in Laredo, TX in 1933 to Antonio and Inez Flores. He attended Martin High School, leaving Laredo in 1950 to serve in the Korean War with the US Airforce. He settled in Washington DC thereafter, with his brothers Pancho and Lalo, where he married the love of his life and mother of his children, Patricia Doyle. He owned and operated several successful hair styling salons in Annandale, Alexandria, Springfield and retired from his last salon, Hair Takers in Laredo in 1990.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Inez Flores, brothers Manuel “Meme” and Francisco “Pancho,” sister Ana Maria Alaniz and is survived by his children Deanna Flores Cochran, Victoria Flores Carlson and spouse Benjamin Carlson, and Marco Antonio “Chente” Flores and spouse Rae Miller Flores. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Danielle Cochran, Lauren Cochran, Lily Ana Flores, and Gavin Antonio Flores and his brothers Calixto “Kiko,” Blas, Eduardo “Lalo” and Serapio “Chapo.”
To all who knew Tony, you know he loved life, and he made the most of whatever circumstances he was in and took care of his children and his family and friends. He gave whatever he had to whomever needed it. He had a heart to be there when people were sick or dying and to comfort and show up to pay his respects. He loved the Flores family Easter reunion at the ranch most of all. He really looked forward to that each year. He traveled all over South America and Europe, his favorite destination being Rio de Janeiro, where he went for many years.
As everyone knows, he had a special love for the game of golf. 2 days before he died he asked his children to take him to Lake Casa Blanca one last time. He reminisced of caddying there when he was 10 years old. He marshalled the course in later years, won the PAGA Tournament in 2011 for his age group and played many games on many courses over his lifetime in North and South America.

Please accept my apologies for not being able to attend but know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. My deepest condolences to the Flores family. Love you all.
My deepest condolences to the Flores Family. Tony’s Mom, Inez and my Grandmother, Maria were “comadres”. Our family lived on O’kane and Springfield. When Tony came back to Laredo, he would make “house calls “ to cut my Mom’s, Velia’s, hair. He had a heart of gold. I met him on several occasions, however, he was older than me and since I was out of the house I didn’t have much contact with him. I was closer to Ana and Chapó. I will forever be grateful to Tony for being so considerate of my Mom and my Dad. May Tony rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon him.
Your family are in our hearts & minds. Our deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Tony Flores family. We send our most sincere condolences.
I have many fond memories of Tio Tony. Three words to describe him would be "One Cool Dude". I always admired the way he would just go with the day and not be phased by whatever is going on in the world. It was as if he was at peace with whatever was happening around him. I will miss him at our family reunion, but am at ease knowing he lived a full life. May he rest in peace.
To the Flores Family, please accept my most sincere heartfelt condolences over the passing of Tony. His obituary sums everything about a gentleman that he was in life to all who knew him. I had the pleasure meeting and working alongside him when he was the owner / contractor of the jail commissary during my years as a detention officer / deputy sheriff in Webb County Sheriff Dept. Often he would bring his son Chente along to help him distribute the commissary items to the inmates. May he rest in peace, until we meet again Tony!
Our deepest condolences to the family, may Tony rest in peace.
Victoria and family, We send our love and sympathies to you and your family. Wayne, Cathie Swingle and family
