It’s with a heavy heart that the Andrews family announces the passing of Arturo Andrews, a husband, father and dear friend to so many.
Arturo Andrews,79, of Laredo, TX, passed away and entered into eternal rest on July 10, 2023.
Arturo was born on November 12, 1943 to Alonzo and Aurora Andrews in Laredo, TX. After graduating from Martin High School in 1962, he went on and enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he was a radio technician for the C-130 aircraft. After serving in the Marines, he went on to study at Texas A & I in Kingsville.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, he became a teacher at United High School where he taught Math and Mexican History. He loved serving his community and was an advocate for improving the quality of education, while serving as a school board member for UISD. He later changed careers where he would become a successful Allstate agent.
In the summer of 1968, Arturo met Cheryl at a dance in Laredo. They married and went on to have four children, Cristina Marie, Arturo Jr., Rebecca Michelle and Mario Alonzo.
He had a rich love for history, music, traveling and taking his family on many vacations near and far. Arturo, being the compassionate man that he was, would never hesitate to help someone in need up until right before his passing. He took great pride in the details of his life, his home and especially in the way he presented himself.
Arturo was predeceased by his brothers Alonzo, George, Andres, Mario and his beautiful sisters Elma and Carmela. He is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl of 53 years, his children, Cristy , Tito (Rebecca), Becky (Ibrahim) and Mario. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Mendez, and in-laws as well as his nephews, nieces and their children.
The Andrews family will be receiving guests Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 14, 2023 at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services. A chapel service will begin at 9:00 am. Interment will follow immediately at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 59 and flag presentation will be provided by the United States Marine honor guard.
