Obituary

It’s with a heavy heart that the Andrews family announces the passing of Arturo Andrews, a husband, father and dear friend to so many.

Arturo Andrews,79, of Laredo, TX, passed away and entered into eternal rest on July 10, 2023.

Arturo was born on November 12, 1943 to Alonzo and Aurora Andrews in Laredo, TX. After graduating from Martin High School in 1962, he went on and enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he was a radio technician for the C-130 aircraft. After serving in the Marines, he went on to study at Texas A & I in Kingsville.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, he became a teacher at United High School where he taught Math and Mexican History. He loved serving his community and was an advocate for improving the quality of education, while serving as a school board member for UISD. He later changed careers where he would become a successful Allstate agent.

In the summer of 1968, Arturo met Cheryl at a dance in Laredo. They married and went on to have four children, Cristina Marie, Arturo Jr., Rebecca Michelle and Mario Alonzo.

He had a rich love for history, music, traveling and taking his family on many vacations near and far. Arturo, being the compassionate man that he was, would never hesitate to help someone in need up until right before his passing. He took great pride in the details of his life, his home and especially in the way he presented himself.

Arturo was predeceased by his brothers Alonzo, George, Andres, Mario and his beautiful sisters Elma and Carmela. He is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl of 53 years, his children, Cristy , Tito (Rebecca), Becky (Ibrahim) and Mario.

My deepest condolences, Tia Cheryl and family. It was such a joy to have my Tio Arturo as my math teacher in high school, and with my insecurities with math, he made it all look so simple. Dear Tia, may you be comforted with peace and with the hope that one day we will be with him in eternal happiness. Blessings to all the family and may Tio rest in peace.

Arturo, my dear and close friend for over 70 days starting in elementary school. We never lost contact with each other with those occasional phone calls. He went on to film our wedding in 1976 and presented Irene and I with a copy that we still cherish. I was very fortunate to have had Arturo as a close friend for those many years. My condolences to Cheryl and family. Larry and Irene Garza

I am sorry to hear that Andrew has passed. He was such an inspiration to so many students, he visibly cared for us and we knew it. He was a happy place to go during the day. His classes were never boring but upbeat. He made an impression on me and I am glad to have him as a teacher and friend. God bless the family Thank you Mr Andrews! Go with God
