Obituary

Angela G. Cruz was welcomed to heaven by our Lord on March 21, 2015. Angela was a loving person that lived her life devoted to her faith and family. She loved her garden, plants and flowers. A devoted mother and grandmother, Angela relished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as she cooked home made meals for them. Sacrifice, love and devotion are the hallmark of an extraordinary individual and those virtues were certainly exemplified on a daily basis by Angela. She sacrificed so many things in her life in order to ensure that her family was well taken care of. However, she never complained of her sacrifices because she did it out of love. Through her actions, she taught her family to put God first above all other things and treat others with kindness and respect.

Her mother and father, Juan Gamez and Eleuteria R. Gamez whom she often told many stories about with much love, admiration and respect, preceded Angela in death. Also preceding her death were sister and brothers, Juanita G. Arizola, Roberto and Delfina Gamez, Miguel Gamez and Irma Gamez, as well as her deeply missed nieces/nephew, Roberto Gamez, Jr., Maria Elsa Arizola and Ana R . Gamez.

Her husband of 56 years, Felix Cruz, Jr. and her four (4) children, Vilma (Fernando) Pena, Felix (Blanca) Cruz, III, Griselda (Gustavo) Alcantar, and Juan J. Cruz survives Angela. She will join her daughter in heaven, Raquel (Richard) Chalambaga. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren that are left with fond memories of their beloved grandmother include, Reymundo (Cindy) Arispe, Rachel Arispe, Carmen Cruz, Veronica Cruz, Felix Cruz, IV, Gustavo I. Alcantar. Krysta Arispe, Brandon Arispe, and Rey Arispe.

Her brother, Jose “Pepe” Gamez and Joaquina Villarreal, also survives Angela. Many people also survive her that had a special place in her heart, including nieces, nephews, neighbors and a loving extended family.

The family would like to thank, in very special regard, Rebecca and Julie Gamez, who are nieces of Angela, and showered her with weekly gifts of flowers and homemade pastries, which she thoroughly enjoyed. In addition, the family also thanks the kindness of Dr. Eduardo Miranda and Dr. Antonio Santillan who oversaw her medical needs with warmth and care. Further, the family would also like to thank Altus Hospice who provided much needed support to the family and Global Nursing Services who were always available for any particular need.

Family members will receive guests on Monday, March 23, 2015, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a Holy rosary recited at 7:00pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at San Luis Rey Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at 10:00am. Interment will follow immediately to the Calvary Catholic cemetery.

Pallbearers will be; Luis Gamez, Jose Pepe Gamez, Jr., Juan Gamez, Felix Cruz IV, Gustavo I. Alcantar, Reymundo Arispe, Jr., and Richard Chalambaga.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Fred Dickey Funeral Home located at 1320 Trey Drive, Laredo, TX.

Dear Lord, relying on your promises to us, I turn to you in trust that Angela Gamez Cruz (mother to Vilma (Fernando) Pena, Felix (Blanca) Cruz, III, Griselda (Gustavo) Alcantar, and Juan J. Cruz) is with you and that she is enjoying your loving embrace. You alone know how she loved them best she could, and how she faithfully endured the struggles that she faced. You know the graces (gifts, blessings) you gave her, and you know the grace she was for her family, friends,  and for so many others who she touched. For all the ways she truly loved, the way you loved her, please reward her, Lord.  May she enjoy the communion of all her family and friends who are with you; like her parents and her beloved daughter, Rachel (Richard) Chalambaga. Lord, I know Mrs. Angela Gamez Cruz (Tía Gela) will continue to love us who are still here on earth. I ask you that you might listen to her fervent prayers for her family. Help her family to grow into a new and deeper relationship with her now, as they long for the day when they will also meet both of you in your embrace - free from all that might have hindered their relationship on earth, knowing and understanding everything that they did not know or understand on this earth. I ask you this with faith in the resurrection of our Christ, Jesus  trusting in her love, and desiring that she knows my love and deep respect for her.  Amen.
