Obituary

Amelia M. Mena before

Amelia Margarita Mena, 89, passed away peacefully at a senior care center in Round Rock, Texas, on Tuesday, June 17, 2014.

She was born in Laredo, Texas and resided there all of her life.  She was the daughter of the late Agustin Vargas Mena and Epifania Castillo de Mena.
“Nena,” as she was called by her family and numerous friends, will forever be remembered by her nephew Agustin (Tamera) Mena III and niece Cecilia Mena; and Agustin’s daughters, whom she adored:  Andrea Ann (David) McClendon, Stephanie Ann Mena and Katherine Ann Mena. She will also be remembered by countless other family members and friends who were blessed to know her, especially ex-students and faculty of Macdonnell Elementary School where she worked as the school secretary for many years.

Amelia was a kind and loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.  She was a generous and faith-filled person with a friendly smile and happy attitude that touched many people’s hearts.
The family is deeply grateful to Raquel Olachea, who lovingly watched over Amelia for many years in Laredo; and to all the staff at Hearthstone Health Center who also provided her with loving care when she moved to Round Rock.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 20, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and a Vigil of the Deceased will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services.

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church

Committal services and interment will follow in the Laredo City Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services, 1320 Trey Dr. Laredo, Texas 78041 (956)723-3611.

My deepest condolences on the passing of Miss Amelia Mena. I met Miss Mena when I started working as a teacher-aide at C. M. Macdonell Elementary School. Miss Mena was the epitome of kindness and generosity three-fold. My heart and prayers go out to her family. She is truly missed. She is home in God's loving arms and at peace. I love you, Miss Mena!
