Alicia C. Martinez, 75, entered into eternal rest, Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Alicia Cantu Martinez was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She was born on April 15, 1948 to Guillermo and Guadalupe Cantu. She was the only daughter born in middle of seven brothers. Losing her mother at a very young age and her father shortly after getting married, Alicia became the mother figure to all her brothers. Alicia married her childhood neighbor, Antonio Martinez, and together they shared a beautiful union of almost 55 years. Her loving husband was in the process of planning their 55th anniversary celebration this December at the time of her passing. We know their love will go on.
Alicia was a loving mother to three children, Antonio Martinez, Jr (Julie), Laura Alicia McCoy (+Eduardo, Jr.), and Maricela M. Botello (Juan Mario, Jr.)
She was a doting grandmother to Eduardo McCoy, III (Alicia), Jacob McCoy, Juan Mario Botello, III, Katelyn Marie McCoy, and Diego Antonio Botello. She is also survived by her brothers Guillermo Cantu, Jr., and Mario Alberto Cantu.
Alicia worked as a state employee for 35 years and retired once her grandchildren began elementary school. Once her grandkids began attending M. S. Ryan Elementary, she began substituting at the school. She loved being a part of the Bobcat family.
Alicia was a sports enthusiast and loved her weekends of high school, college and pro football. She loved discussing all facets of sports with her family. Mom knew all the teams and players. One of her many highlights of her life was attending University of Notre Dame and Texas A&M University football games. Many trips were taken all over the country to see a football game She was a devoted Irish and Aggie grandma.
A truly loving grandmother she never missed an awards ceremony, dance recital, basketball game; football game or baseball game. She loved watching her grandchildren in all their activities. She was a true Bobcat, Lion, Hawk, Mustang and United Longhorn fan. Of course she was always at her granddaughter’s recital as well. Her grandchildren were her life, and she was so proud of them.
Alicia had a strong faith in our Lord and a true devotion to our Blessed Mother. She passed this strong faith to her children and grandchildren. Alicia truly loved her parish of Blessed Sacrament and our pastor Fr. Wojciech. As her health declined, she continuously asked to go to church. She missed her parish community.
Alicia was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Raul, Ernesto, Antonio, Daniel, and Fernando Cantu and her son in-law, Eduardo R. McCoy, Jr whom she truly missed.
