Alfredo De Los Santos, 93, peacefully passed away on January 2, 2024. He was born on July 22, 1930 and was the son of Carlos and Sara Martinez De Los Santos. Alfredo was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. At an early age, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as military police. Following his honorable discharge, he made his way to Chicago, Illinois to work on painting homes. He then returned to Laredo and began working and helping his brother Frank at Borden’s Milk. Afterwards, he worked in sales for Mrs. Jacobs’ at Laredo Welder’s Equipment on Marcella Street. He often helped his father after getting off work at C. De Los Santos Hardware Store that was located on 701 E. Saunders. Mr. Pat Alexander Sr. later acquired Laredo Welders Equipment and Alfredo continued to work for him until the company was sold to Airgas. He faithfully dedicated 42 years of his life to his job and retired at the age of 72. Alfredo was a loyal, honest, and committed employee. His work ethic was unmatched. After retirement, Alfredo always remained active by helping his wife, Irma, with her tamale business. He was a creature of habit and loved eating delicious home cooked meals that his wife would make. Additionally, he enjoyed outings at his favorite restaurants, watching his favorite shows, going for a cruise, and spending time with family. Alfredo loved his children and grandchildren very much and was present and intentional in their lives. He will be deeply missed.
Alfredo is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Irma Isabel Farias De Los Santos; parents, Carlos and Sara Martinez De Los Santos; siblings, Francisco “Frank” (Olga Ramon) De Los Santos, Lt. Col Carlos (Emma Garcia) De Los Santos Jr., Cesar J. (Esther Garcia) De Los Santos, Sara Jo. Eckenrode, nephews; Charles “Charlie” Watkins and James Thomas Eckenrode. Parent in laws, Juan and Isabel Sanchez Farias; Sisters in law, Teresa (Antonio) Ramirez, Yolanda (Valente) Pelaez. Brothers in law; Johnny (Armandina Arambula) Farias, Manuel Arzamendi, and Reynaldo Palos.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Freddie (Melissa) De Los Santos, Cesar Rene (Jackie) De Los Santos, Sara Alicia (Humberto) Herrera, and Rolando (Soledad) De Los Santos. Grandchildren; Jennifer (Danny) Treviño, Cesar Rene De Los Santos Jr., Madison Mireles, Adriana (Ryan) Garcia, Selina De Los Santos, Damyan De Los Santos, Dyllon (Yaritza) De Los Santos, Diego De Los Santos, and Derek De Los Santos. Great Grandchildren; Sebastyan Sarabia, Megan Jimenez, and Jason Jimenez. Sisters; Irma (William) Weaver and Sara P. (Larry) Fry. Sisters in law; Rosario Arzamendi, Cleotilde Palos, and Minerva Farias. Brother in law; Roberto (Mari) Farias and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Cesar De Los Santos Sr., Cesar De Los Santos Jr., Selina De Los Santos, Dyllon De Los Santos, Derek De Los Santos, Damyan De Los Santos, Rolando De Los Santos, and Humberto “Beto” Herrera.
The family would like to express their utmost appreciation for Alfredo’s caregiver, Teresa Arredondo and her family, for her companionship, sacrifice, and dedication to providing the best care for our dad and grandpa.
Our dad and grandpa will always be remembered for his big heart, strength, and silly laugh. We love you! Until we meet again. Roll ‘em.
The family will be receiving condolences on Monday, January 8, 2024, in the Angelus Chapel at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A prayer service will be officiated at 6:30 pm by Rev. Adrian Castillo. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from the funeral home to San Luis Rey Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will follow to the Laredo City Cemetery.
