Obituary

Alfonso (Poncho) Martinez passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 21, 2022, at the age of 48.

Poncho was born on Oct. 13, 1974, to Ruben Martinez (dec.) and Maria E. Martinez in Dallas, TX.

He married the love of his life, Tomasa (Tommie) Añorve, on Sept. 20, 1996, and together went on to have two wonderful boys, Alfonso Jr. and Andres Alberto.

In 2002 he joined the Laredo Fire Dept and served the community for 20 years and 4 months.  His most current assignment was Fire Driver/Paramedic at Fire Station 10 where he served with his crew: Fire Captain, Rolando Martinez, AD/P, Issac Cantua, FF/P, Cayetano Treviño, FF/P Reynaldo Veliz, FF/P, Jesus Hernandez, and EMS Captain, Eric Venegas.

Poncho is preceded in death by his brother, Jose A. Martinez, father, Ruben Martinez, maternal and paternal grandparents.  He is survived by his wife, Tomasa, and children, Alfonso Jr. and Andres Alberto, mother, Maria E. Martinez, brothers, David A. (Lourdes), Ruben G. (Esmeralda), Fernando, and Luis E. (Karla), aunts, uncles and numerous friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Poncho was fun-loving, outgoing and was the life of every party.  He loved cooking out and maintained his high school friends for over 30 yrs. (too many to list, but you know who you are.)  He will be missed more than words could express and will forever be in our hearts.

The family will be receiving guests on Wednesday, December 28. 2022, at Fred Dickey Funeral Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm.  Funeral services will be Thursday, December 29, 2022, from the funeral home to Mother Cabrini Catholic Church for a funeral Mass at 9:00 am.  Interment will be held at a later date.

Rest easy Poncho, until we meet again…

Dear Tommie and all your family, there are no words to express the loss of your dear husband and father to your children. May the beautiful memories you made together bring you peace and comfort through the days ahead. Sending you a beautiful passage, “ I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with you, And then I realized, you spend the rest of your life with me. I smile because I know you loved me til the day you went away and I will keep loving you til the day we’re together again.” Sincerely Teresa and Noel Sanchez
