Obituary

Alberto Gomez, 72, died peacefully at his home on May 31, 2017 after a year of valiantly battling cancer.  Alberto was born in Laredo, Texas to Santiago Gomez and Beatriz (Martinez) Gomez, and was married to Angela Cruz Gomez.  Alberto and Angela are the parents of Laura (Mike) Link and Alberto (Cynthia) Gomez, Jr., and are the grandparents of Ava Isabella Gomez and Benjamin Gomez.

Alberto, Tito, as he was known to his family and friends, was a retired Missouri Pacific railroad engineer. After an early retirement, Tito was able to pursue many activities that gave him much joy and pleasure. This included Sunday barbecues, frequent trips to Port Aransas, hunting trips to the Garcia ranch with his brother-in-law Eddie Garcia, and most of all being the “trail boss” in many occasions for his friends.  He loved planning and organizing their trips to Las Vegas, setting up and managing investment groups in oil, gas, and real estate ventures, and promoting boxing matches with his little bro, Joe Martinez.

“Our friends increase the quality of our lives.”  These words rang true to Tito, who loved his dear lifelong friends – Roberto Salinas, Joe Martinez, Emilio Aldape, Oscar Martinez, Jose Salvador Tellez, Gilberto Martinez, +Jose “Chito” Vela, +Juan Gallegos, and his brothers-in-law, Eddie Garcia, Martin “Checo” Cruz and Oscar Cisneros.

Above all, Tito was a provider of love, guidance, support, and fun to his wife and children.  Laura and Alberto Jr. were his pride and joy.  Most recently his main concern was planning the celebration of his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Angela with a trip to Europe.

Alberto is predeceased by his parents and by his two eldest brothers, Santiago Gomez, Jr., and Arturo Luis (Lupita) Gomez.  He is survived by his wife, Angela Cruz Gomez, by his daughter, Laura (Mike) Link, his son Alberto (Cynthia) Gomez, Jr., and by his two grandchildren, Ava Isabella Gomez and Benjamin Gomez.  His is also survived by his only sister, Berta Garcia and her husband Eddie Garcia, and by his sister-in-law, Lupita (Jim) Sanders, and by his nieces, Rebecca L. Garcia, Rosella (Daniel) Barber, Ruby (Efrain) Mares, Cordy (Eddie) Garza-Gongora, Dr. Monica Gomez and by many life-long friends.

Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00pm – 9:00pm, Vigil at 7:00pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services.

Dear Angie, I'm so sorry to hear about Tito's passing. May he find rest in our Lord Jesus Christ and may you find peace and comfort soon. I'm out of town and just read his obituary today, June 7, 2017 via internet. I have fond memories of you from Texas A&I back in the late 60's and even though we did not see each other much I always though of you and Tito very fondly. Recibe un abrazo muy fuerte y mi más sentido pésame por su fallecimiento.
