Obituary

Samuel Piton, beloved brother, uncle, nephew and cousin, known as Sammy by all who loved him, journeyed to eternal life on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the age of 59.  To quote his friend Bill Hrncir, Sam had a very talkative and gregarious personality, full of fun and laughter. He will be truly missed.

Mr. Piton, was a lifelong resident of Laredo, 1983 graduate of Raymond and Tirza Martin High School and was a 30-year stroke survivor.

Sammy received an Associates of Fine Arts from Laredo Community College and was in the process of attaining a Bachelors in Early Education from Laredo State University prior to his stroke. Since then, he lived a quiet life with his family until about 13 years ago, when he became an active member of the Laredo Stroke Support Group. As a new member he found life around new friendships, interests and goals and after that Sam couldn’t be stopped. As an active member, Sam competed in tennis and tricycling where he earned various medals. He bragged about yoga, walking, weight lifting for strengthening and about prayer, music and fishing for the mind and soul.  Sam was very social and enjoyed bingo and dancing at the adult day care, but his favorite was art class and painting his colorful view of life and the world around him. Even through his adversity of having to learn and adapt to using his left arm, Sam’s talent and artistic flair enabled him to paint many pieces which captured the eye of many.

Manito, we thank God for you and we were blessed in sharing your life and laughter with us.  We love you and you will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents Federico F. and Ofilia L. Piton.

He is survived by his siblings: Federico F. (Imelda) III, Claudia and Adrian. Nieces and nephews: Priscilla, Adriana, Marco Aaron and Eric.

Aunts and Uncles: Cynthia P. (Antonio+) Deleza, Laura P. (Leopoldo) Lozano, Jr., Martin Carlos+ (Myrna) Piton, Belinda (Jorge) Medina, Eduardo (Maria) Piton, David Henry (Ana) Piton as well as numerous cousins.

Sam, as you journey on, we take comfort knowing you are at peace and in embrace of our departed family and in the presence of our gracious Lord. It was a blessing having grown up next door to each other and I will hold on to many childhood memories. I’m beyond proud of seeing you flourish through adversity and becoming quite an artist. You embraced life and you showed us the beauty of it through the stoke of a brush, and we are blessed having a part of you and your colorful view of life on canvas. Primo, we miss you and you will live in our hearts always! Rest in Peace Guera! ❤️🕊️
