Obituary

Adrienne Alyzela Gonzalez

April 11, 1961 – October 8, 2024

On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Adrienne A. Gonzalez, loving and kind partner, sister and tía passed away at the age of 63.

Born in Laredo on April 11, 1961, she was the oldest of eight children born to Adan and María del Pilar Gonzalez. Adrienne and her life companion, Diana R. Martinez, were together for 28 beautiful years.

Adrienne was a graduate of the Martin High School Class of 1979 and attended Laredo Junior College. She lived in Laredo, Austin, and San Antonio, Reston, Virginia and Aurora, Colorado.

She and Diana traveled extensively in Mexico, Spain, France, Italy, Morocco and throughout the U.S. An adventurous and curious traveler, she loved exploring historic churches and buildings, visiting museums, and reveling in culinary delights. And she loved the excitement of gambling in Las Vegas!

Adrienne was a creative and nurturing soul and kind friend. She and Diana hosted numerous Academy Award parties, spectacular family and friend birthday parties, Mexican Train game nights, and shared with friends many a Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner in their home in the historic St. Peter’s District.

She loved to cook and to re-purposing colorful and found objects. The lemon trees, bougainvillea, and Esperanzas at their Vidaurri Street home were the beneficiaries of her devoted care.

Adrienne was an avid reader and movie aficionada, both those endeavors part of conversations with friends at many a delicious meal at a beautifully set table and the ensuing sobremesa ritual of a good cup of coffee and buena platica. She favored starched linen clothes, an array of colorful and amusing socks, and hats “para tirar para arriba!”

For their love of of food, Diana and Adrienne cooked and catered for TAMIU, Laredo Center for the Arts, and private events. Their tamales were featured in Texas Monthly at the height of their delicious and creative production. Adrienne owned Sew Laredo, collaborating with schools and businesses to create and design logos and icons on bags, t-shirts, and outerwear.

She is preceded in death by her father Adan Amos Gonzalez, and is survived by her mother, Pilar R. Gonzalez; life companion, Diana; siblings, Ada (Michael), Adan (Martha), Adrian (Ventura), Adoleena (Mark), Admeeda, Adionicio (Ashley) and Adeena (Armen); and nieces/nephews Adan Guillermo, Alexandria (Israel), John Asa, Paloma (Matthew), Anastasia (Deyo), Alessandro, Marcello, Joaquin, Patricio, Mark, Mia, and Pavel and numerous extended family members and friends.

The language of Adrienne’s life was kindness and helping people. She will be remembered for this and for her musica adentro wry wit, her take-charge solutions to address any issue, and her positive and loving counsel for friends.

The family will be receiving guests on Monday, October 14, 2024, in the Angelus Chapel at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Rosary will commence at 7:00 pm. Cremation services will occur at a later date.

Tia Pilar and cousins, my deepest and heartfelt condolences. May our sweet Lord comfort you in this time of sorrow and remind you of His love when you recall all the beautiful memories and her smile. I wish I could join you and hug each of you, but I too just had to say goodbye to my husband, Danny, of 35 years of marriage who the Lord called and so I have to attend to family matters. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with each of you. God bless you. Love, Elda Botello-Ramirez

Adrienne Gonzalez aka Nani, as her family and friends know her, will always remain in our hearts. When I first became acquainted with Nani and Diana through the beautiful woman, Ada Gonzalez, who is now my wife, I felt a sense of being with family from day one. Nani has the wonderful ability to make you feel welcomed and cared for. I will miss her physical presence and I know she will always be with us because Spirit/Energy remains eternal. Blessings to Nani and all the souls that she touched.
