Yolanda Farias Pelaez, 72, was called to the presence of our Lord and entered into everlasting rest and peace on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
Yolanda Pelaez will always be remembered as the first (and only) graduate of Laredo Beauty College’s Inaugural Class of 1965. In September of 1966, one year after her graduation, she opened Yolanda’s Beauty Salon, and successfully managed to stay in business at the original location for over 52 years. As time has passed, her clients have stayed true and loyal as they walked in and exited through her salon doors with beautiful and unique hairstyles. Yolanda was a true artist of her trade and shined brightly through her wonderful talents. She not only made everyone look and feel gorgeous, but made lasting memories with family, friends and clients that will live on forever.
Ms. Farias Pelaez is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Isabel Farias and her brother, Juan Farias, Jr (Mandy).
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Maria Isabel (Christopher) Cabello, Monica Y. Campero and Juan Manuel Pelaez; grandchildren, Christin Cabello, Adrian Cabello and Sebastian Cabello; husband, Valente Pelaez; siblings, Teresa Ramirez, Rosario Arzamendi, Irma (Alfredo) De Los Santos, Cleotilde (Reynaldo) Palos and Roberto R. (Mari) Farias; sister-in-law, Minerva Farias, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, March 24, 2019, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. My heartfelt condolences go to the family of my dear friend Yolanda. Time spent with her and her entire family was so much more than a "beauty shop" appointment, for me and for all of her clients. She and her sister-in-law Mari and her mother whom we all knew as Chabelita, plus the cheerful appearances of her brother Bobby made it a happy time for us all. There was always delicious food that never needed a reason for appearing. I am sure I speak for all of her long-time clients who feel the same. Rest in peace, dear friend. Jennie Reed
