Teresa Gallego Gutierrez, 87, joined our Heavenly Father on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025 in Laredo, Texas surrounded by her family.
Teresa was born and educated in Laredo, Texas having attended Ursuline Academy, Buenos Aires Elementary School, Christen Middle School and graduated at the age of 16 as part of the Class of 55 from Martin High School where she was active in tennis, the Chorus and the PASF Club. She was an avid swimmer as the family owned the Buenos Aires Recreation Center.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, aunt and grandmother. She worked as well. She started as a Flight Records Secretary at the Air Force Base. After the Air Force Base closed, she went on to work as an Investigative Assistant for U.S. Customs Enforcement Office and retired in 1998 after 30 years of service. Upon her retirement, she was part of NARFE.
She was a devout Catholic attending church services weekly at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. At home, she prayed her daily prayers and the rosary.
She loved watching her favorite shows such as Mexican movies such as “Cine de Oro” and “novelas.” She enjoyed listening to songs of Rocio Dúrcal and Juan Gabriel. Her favorite song being “ Amor Eterno”. She even loved the song “Secret Love” from Doris Day. She loved to travel to Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada. She loved sitting on the couch playing solitaire on her cellphone. Moreover, she enjoyed reading hardcover books and digital books. She was an excellent cook making delicious traditional Mexican dishes and desserts which included family recipes as she inherited her mother’s “sazon” for cooking.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vicente Gutierrez Sr., her daughter Guadalupe “Lupita” Cortez, her father Don Jose Gallego, her mother Guadalupe Romo Gallego and her siblings: infants Jose, Elenita and Alicia Gallego, Jorge Gallego, Maria Luisa Vicharelli, Blanca Chapa, Margarita Cremo, Jaime Gallego and Raul Gallego.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother-in-law Nicholas Gutierrez and her loving children: Son-in-Law Oscar Cortez Sr, Vicente (Gloria) Gutierrez Jr., Teresita De Jesus Gutierrez, Margarita Gutierrez, Javier (Elvira) Gutierrez and Nora Lizette (Ernesto) Meza. She is further survived by her adored grandchildren: Khristen G. Gutierrez, Raul Valdez Jr., Christine Cortez, Dr. James Vincent Cortez, Leslie Ann Cortez, Oscar (Samantha) Cortez Jr., Vicente “Trey” Gutierrez III, Javier Gutierrez Jr., Teresita De Jesus Gutierrez, Ernesto “Neto” Alejandro Meza Jr, Vianca Alicia Gutierrez and David Gutierrez as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Special thanks go to nieces Gabby Navarro and Blanca Hill and family friend Guadalupe “Lupita” Perez, Altus Hospice and nurses Jorge and Magűi, Cornerstone Caregiving under Mrs. Monica Alonzo, her caregivers Michelle and Amparo for their unwavering support. We also wish to thank all the doctors who were involved in our mother’s care while in the hospital especially to her grandson Dr. James V. Cortez for his tireless work in getting the team of doctors: Dr. Morris, Dr. Corral, Dr. Gutierrez, Dr. J. Camero, Dr. A. Camero, Dr. Sandhu, Dr. Owen and Dr. Amo.
In addition, we are grateful to all the hospital nurses and nurse aides from the ICU and from the 3rd and 5th floors. Lastly we would like to thank everyone for the hospital visits, well wishes and prayers.
The family will be receiving guests on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from the funeral home to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral mass will begin at 9:00 am. Interment will follow to the Laredo City Cemetery.
