Sergio Gonzalez was called home to the Lord on June 20, 2021.

He was born in Guerrero Viejo, MX on June 23, 1942. He immigrated to the U.S. with his parents, was raised in Rio Grande City, TX, and graduated from Hebbronville High School in 1962. He met his lifelong love, Maria Isabel Benavides, in 1959 and they got married in 1963. They moved to San Jose, CA, where Sergio worked in a sheet metal company during the day and operated his first business, providing janitorial services, in the evenings. It is there where they became parents to three boys, Ricardo, Sergio Jr., and Rafael.

In 1976, the family moved to Laredo, TX where Sergio worked for the Workman Construction Company as a foreman for several years. He started his second business, Texas Gourmet Meats, doing sales, and in 1984 opened his third business, R&S Drive Thru. His one stop shop was a convenience store, restaurant, quick lube service, and feed store. It proved so successful he opened a second location. A tireless worker, he also tended to his livestock at his beloved “El Cowboy” ranch. The consummate provider, Sergio worked until the very end. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto & Eva Guadalupe Gonzalez; step-mother, Maria Olga Gonzalez; brothers, Israel S. Gonzalez, and Derly S. Gonzalez.

Sergio is survived by his wife, Maria Isabel Gonzalez; sons, Ricardo (Erika) Gonzalez, Sergio (Toni) Gonzalez, Jr., Rafael (Corina) Gonzalez; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ernesto (Joanne) Gonzalez, Jaime (Estela) Gonzalez, Joel Gonzalez, Ismael (Cynthia) Gonzalez; Rosemary Gonzalez; as well as numerous other family and friends who will greatly miss him.

The family will be receiving guests on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at San Luis Rey Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will begin at 8:30 am. Interment will follow to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ricardo Gonzalez, Sergio Gonzalez, Jr., Rafael Gonzalez, Eric Gonzalez, Rafael Gonzalez, Jr., Raymundo Gonzalez, Ramon Ramos, and Adrian Gaytan.

The family will also be live streaming the funeral services at www.freddickey.com on Wednesday, starting at 5:00 pm.
