Rufino Benavides, 95, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

He dedicated himself to his nation with great pride while serving in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he spent 32 years as a lieutenant with the Laredo Police Department.

Mr. Benavides is preceded in death by his parents, Rufino Benavides and Antonia Bazan.

He is survived by his loving partner, Rosa C. Donovan; daughter, Gladys O. (Tony) Tijerina; step children, Azeneth (Raul) Reyes, George Donovan, Jacqueline Donovan and Oscar Donovan Jr; grandchildren, Lizette (Rene) Montiel, Pete (Andrew Hobby) Tijerina; numerous loving nieces and nephews; as well as many other loving family & friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Monday, May 19, 2025 at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation services, where chapel doors will open at 8:00 am. A chapel service will be officiated at 10:00 am. Interment will follow to the Laredo City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricardo B. Garza, Andrew Hobby, Rene Montiel, Jeremías Sandoval, Pete Tijerina, Tony Tijerina. Honorary pallbearers will be George Donovan, Oscar Donovan, Jr., Christian Mancha, Raul Reyes

My condolences to the family. I feel the pain of losing my loving uncle, but the pride I have for him overwhelmes my beautiful memories of him. I remember how he cared for his father, my grandfather, his two sisters, Jane Benavides and Consuelo Benavides Rodriguez. He never left them alone to care for themselves. He showed all his nieces and nephews love and a caring attention to each and everyone of us for our accomplishments. He is the last of his ten brothers and sisters (our aunts and uncles). I am sure that his family awaits for him in paradise with love. God bless you Tio Nuno!
