On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, she was welcomed by our heavenly father into his kingdom of eternal life and peace. She will forever be remembered by her family, friends and all those who knew her for selfless heart, her loyalty, love of God and life, and laughter.
As a child, she loved God, her parents, The Wizard of Oz, the song Over the Rainbow, bubble gum, coconut popsicles and taking care of her little sister Berta Laura and younger cousins. She possessed a contagious smile that was one of her lifelong characteristics that showed her positive outlook toward everyone she met and later worked with.
Chawa or Chacha, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was the fourth of five children. She was born on November 27, 1950 to Fernando and Hortencia Ramirez. She attended Laredo I.S.D schools and was a proud graduate of J.W. Nixon High School. She went on to receive a degree in Secondary Education and began her career as a lifetime educator at L.J. Christen Middle School and also later taught English at J.W. Nixon High School. She received a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Professional Counseling from East Texas State University as a Phi Delta Kappa graduate. Upon returning to Laredo, she worked as a School Guidance Counselor collectively for over 20 years. In 1997, she was promoted by Laredo ISD to Director of Assessment and Evaluation. She went on to also serve as Director of Guidance and School Counseling/At-Risk Population and was later promoted to Executive Director for Accountability, Planning and Evaluation.
She retired Laredo ISD after 37 years of service. Her plan was to dedicate her time to serving God, her church, family, and friends. However, the good Lord had other plans for her and she listened to His call. Her love for working with youth continued with non-profit organization of Communities in Schools Laredo. In whose mission is to provide support and resources to students in need. As Executive Director, she served ten years. As a lifelong educator, she firmly believed that all students, no matter the zip code, can succeed if given the support and resources they need.
As a professional and notable educator, she carried her profession to the end, she carried her profession well in her demeanor. It warmed her heart when past students approached her. She recalled the time spent with them and her school colleagues. Rosaura served her professional community as a member of Texas State Teachers Association, Border Counseling Association President, Laredo Association of School Administrators, Secretary, Texas School Counseling Association, Pocahontas Council, C.I.S. Loving her husband and serving God and her family was the highest priority in her life. She often said that her biggest blessings in life were her husband, her nephews, and nieces who were her pride and joy, her heart! She loved them “more than life,” each in their unique way. She would often say or write: “You are my sunshine”, “You are my heart”, “On the day that you were born God smiled.” Her family and friends will miss her hospitality. She loved family gatherings. Hosting the traditional Christmas party was her greatest delight. Her greatest joy was attending mass as a family, talking to the children about Jesus, reading the Night before Christmas to them, and watching everyone open their Christmas gifts while enjoying a divine glass of wine.
We will miss her smile, loud laughter, strong hugs, stern lectures, unconditional support, her peach cake, and most importantly her love. Her words to live by were, “love God first love yourself and your family, serve others, get an education, and be present for whatever career you choose.” The lives she touched is her true legacy.
We know that her last words to all who knew her would be, “Do not be sad, be happy that I have lived, I have loved and have been loved.”
Love of Jesus Fill our hearts, Holy Spirit Guide us, Will of the Father be Done.
AMEN!
