Rolando Homero Lozano, born June 19, 1936 passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Rolando was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. He graduated from Martin High School in 1954. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana. Rolando studied architecture at the University of Chicago and Texas A & I University. He taught math in Asherton and Crystal City, Texas, before joining the United States Postal Service and returning to Laredo. After 30 years of service Rolando retired as Postal Supervisor.
Rolando and his much adored wife Ana Maria (+) were instrumental in initiating the Laredo’s first Kindergarden Program at Central Elementary School, bringing War on Poverty Programs to Laredo such as Head Start, and securing federal funding for public education and public housing. Rolando served on the Selective Service Commission, the American Postal Workers Union, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, cross-word puzzles, college football, home-improvement projects and spending time with family.
Rolando is preceded in death by his wife, Ana Maria and daughter, Sandra. He is survived by his children Martha Lozano, Yolanda (Ralph) Abrenica, Roland (Flor) Lozano Jr., Ricardo (Christina) Lozano and Alma Lozano (Reginald) Richardson and his grandchildren Matthew, Kasi, Katherine, Sarah, Victoria, Crystal, Ricardo, Daniel, Isabella, Rolando III, and Mariana. He is also survived by his siblings Avelardo Lozano, Hector (Tere) Lozano and Nellie (Rogelio) Rivera; as well as by many nieces, nephews, family members and friends that will greatly miss him.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017, from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, 2017, from the funeral home to San Agustin Cathedral. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Interment will follow immediately in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers include Roland Lozano Jr., Ricardo Lozano, Ralph Abrenica, Reginald Richardson, Jesus Solis III, and Ricardo Lozano Jr.
