Roberto Daniel Palacios, aged 72, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, in Laredo, TX. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert and Isabella (and baby brother Palacios), his wife of 43 years, Elsa, his sister Sara and brother-in-law Roberto Cruz.
He is survived by his children Roberto (favorite daughter-in-law Wanda) Palacios, Gabriela (Miguel) Idrogo, and Claudia (Roberto) Espinoza. Grandchildren Biviana, Iriana (Jorge) Gutierrez, Dyandra, and Daniel. Sister Veronica (Jaime+) Gonzales, brother Ricardo (Melody) Palacios, sister Cecilia (Cesar) Saenz, numerous family members and friends, and his constant companion, Gizmo, who would sit and watch sports with him.
Born in Laredo, he was just a boy when he and his siblings lost both their parents requiring them at an early age to be resilient and persevere. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Martin High School and was a jet mechanic. It was during this time that he married his high school sweetheart, Elsa, and started his family. After his military service, he attended Laredo Junior College, got his certification as a Radiology Tech, and worked at the old Mercy Hospital. After working with local pediatrician, Enrique Pellegrin, M.D., and the Webb Co. juvenile Justice center, he finally got a job with the Immigration and Naturalization Service where he spent his 22-year career.
Even when he was seemingly always working, he always found time to attend to band and golf competitions, dance recitals, and volunteered for the Special Olympics.
In the end, few things made him prouder than his family, his military service, and his place in the Palacios golf story. He will be greatly missed.
