Richard R. Rosell, Sr. 96 died peacefully on August 24, 2024, in Laredo, Texas. Born on April 1, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio, he spent most of his life in Laredo, Texas with his wife Dora (deceased), celebrating 69 wonderful years of marriage, and four beautiful children. He is survived by his sons Richard Jr. (Francis) and Robert (Claudia), and two daughters, Rebecca Dromgoole (Mike) and Roselyne Vaughn, sister- in- law Olga (Gus) Guerra. He was grandfather to 9 loving grandchildren: Nancy, Stephen, Joyce, Mark, Robby, Carlos, Michael, Alexis Marie, Christina and numerous great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Hershell H. Rosell, Sr., his mother Lucia Cruias Rosell, his brother Hershell H. Rosell, Jr. (Korean MIA), and his sister Rose May Patterson.
He enlisted in the United States Army June 29, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas. He served his country in the Army Corps of Engineers in World War II, Korean War and Cold War Eras. Decorations; World War II Victory Commemorative, Japan and German occupation, American Defense Commemorative, National Defense Services, and 6 years of Good Conduct Medals. He was Honorably Discharged from the Army on November 4th, 1952 after attaining the rank of Master Sergeant.
He worked for Joe Brand as manager/buyer for the men’s department and oversaw the men’s department for Hachar’s & Richters’s (“El Precio Fijo”), Cutlery World manager and had owned Name Brand Sample store. He had been active in the past with the following: St. Patrick Catholic Church Men’s Club, Lions Club, Korean War Coalition and President Del Mar Hills Betterment League. He was responsible for the naming of the “Rangel” Little League field in Del Mar Hills after Jesus Rangel.
Master Sgt. Rosell will be interred at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
