Reyes Ruiz Jr, 90, passed away on June 23, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his son, Reyes Ruiz III, his parents Reyes Ruiz and Micaela F. Ruiz, sister Maria Guadalupe McFarland and nephew Luis Botello III.
Reyes was born on January 29, 1934 in Laredo, Texas. He attended Martin High School, and graduated in 1954. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran. After the military, he attended Laredo Junior College and received an Associates of Arts Degree. Reyes worked for an import and export business followed by a time at Uniroyal. In 1970, he began his career with the United States Postal Service and retired after 25 years.
Reyes accomplished many things in life. But to him, nothing would compare to meeting the love of his life, his beautiful neighbor Yolanda Botello. Reyes and Yolanda were married on May 6, 1962 and moved into their home on Juarez Avenue where they would reside for the rest of their lives.
Reyes is survived by his wife Yolanda of 62 years, his children, Gabriel (Maria) Ruiz, Melissa (Jorge) Jolly, Anabelle (Juan) Ramos, and Erika (Ernesto) Elizondo, brother Miguel (Yvonne) Ruiz, Brother in law Luis (Hermelinda) Botello Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Reyes was a dedicated husband and father. He was also a devout Catholic leading by example and always reminding us to put God first above everything. To Reyes, family was everything. He especially enjoyed spending time with his kids at Sunday Ruiz cookouts and listening to his favorite music. These evenings usually ended with him thanking the cooks (son’s in laws) and again praising God for all our blessings. Family togetherness is what Reyes valued the most, and what we will cherish forever.
Reyes had a love for baseball and coached his sons’ Little League team, the Day Lions. Former team members still remember Coach Ruiz and their days at the ballpark.
Reyes adored his grandchildren and loved having long talks with them about their latest goals and ambitions in life. He was so proud of all his grandchildren- Reyes (Gina) Ruiz, Kimberly (Carlos) Ortiz, Katelynn, Andrew and Aidan Jolly, Clarissa and Celina Ruiz, Alegra and Diego Ramos, and Ava, Olivia, and Lucas Elizondo. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.
