Pedro Gutierrez, also known as Apa or “El Torreon”, was born May 7, 1946 to mother Hilaria Rodriguez in Torreon, Mexico. He was a hardworking carpenter who dedicated his life to his family. Although having only an education up to grade 3 and working most of his childhood; he perfected his craft and worked around Laredo and all of Texas as well as other states. He was very friendly, loved by all, and he was always the life of the party. He enjoyed barbequing, listening to music, and watching movies.
He would always make everyone feel like part of the family. The later part of his life was a mystery to medical staff as he overcame multiple grim diagnoses on multiple occasions and lived for many years after. Even during his final months, he was overcoming Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and liver cirrhosis. He continued fighting to be able to walk and move around on his own. This shows his character of always being a fighter and a survivor.
He passed away on Monday June 10, 2024 at 12pm peacefully in his home surrounded by his family and caretaker. His spirit will be carried on by his wife of 56 years: Victoria Gutierrez, his daughters: Gloria Yvonne Jimenez and Laura Wilkerson (Shane Wilkerson), sons: Pedro Gutierrez Jr. (Sarah Gutierrez), and Jose Luis Jimenez III, his sister: Juanita Torrez, his grandchildren: Victoria, Reynaldo Jr., Nahum Agustin, Nichole, Derrick, Rosa, Pedro Ismael, Joanne, Jessie, William, and multiple great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
His family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to his caretaker: San Juanita Uvaldo or “Juanita” as he would call her, for doing an excellent job taking care of him and encouraging him to eat, walk, and exercise more. She helped to push him to keep living for a little longer and was there for him up to his final moments.
The family will be receiving condolences on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Fred Dickey Funeral and Cremation Services from 5pm to 9pm. Church services will be held Monday, June 17, 2024 at 9am at Holy Redeemer Church. Cremation services will be held at a later date.
