Obituary

Michael C. Trust

December 27, 1943 – September 18, 2024

Michael C. Trust, a man of unwavering dedication and remarkable talent, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and craftsmanship. Known as the perfect handyman, Michael had a unique ability to fix anything that needed repair at home. He approached every task with skill, patience, and care. There was truly nothing he couldn’t do. A gifted builder, Michael also could make the best use of space with his sense of organization and beauty. This sense of beauty and symmetry could be seen as he created unique trophies, plaques, and other awards at his beloved business, G&G Custom Awards.

Beyond his talent for fixing, building, and creating, Michael served his country as a proud member of the Texas Army National Guard during the Vietnam War, working his way up from the rank of Private to Battery Commander, and retiring at the rank of Major with more than 18 years of service.

Michael also had a generous heart, often donating books to needy children at Trautman Elementary, as well as other schools and organizations. He will be remembered by those who knew him, including his fellow 1962 graduates of Saint Joseph’s Academy, where he played football as a proud Antler.

Michael was a good husband, loyal friend, and a loving father who will forever remain in the hearts of his beloved family, including his wife of 58 years, Nellie R. Trust, daughters Melissa Trust and Mindy Trust Casso (Peter), and sons Michael Trust II (Monica) and Marc Trust, M.D. (Ashley). He is also survived by his siblings, C. Arthur Trust II, Julie Bourg, and Joaquin Edward Trust, 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, C. Arthur Trust and Beatrice Peña Trust.

The family of Michael invites those who knew him to gather and honor his life and spirit on Wednesday, September 25th from 9:00 to 10:45am at Fred Dickey Funeral and Cremation Services, 1320 Trey Dr. A Mass for Michael will follow at 11:00am at San Martin de Porras Church, 1704 Sandman St., with a reception immediately following the Mass at Fred Dickey Funeral and Cremation Services.

The Trust family would like to thank Guiding Light Hospice, MIH, and Dr. Gabriel de Erausquin, Neurologist from UT Health, for providing excellent care in Michael’s final journey.

So Brave

I will never forget that awful day when Dementia came to take you away. All those memories, all those years, running down my face now as tears.

Why is this life oh so cruel, trying to turn you into Dementia’s fool?

But above it all, you stood tall when Dementia came to call. Every day you stood and fought, so determined not to be caught.

It’s all this we will remember when looking back at life’s embers. How brave you were in Dementia’s face, never slowing to its pace.

So goodbye my love, see you soon, on the bright side of the moon.
