Our dear mother Martha L. Quesada passed away gently at the age of 82 on January 8, 2018 leaving this world to join the loved ones who went before her.

Martha was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.  She was raised in a loving environment with a family that cherished the art and culture of her beloved Mexico.  She left Mexico in September 1955 to make a new life in the United States with our father and resided in Laredo, Texas.  In this country she gave birth to the three daughters and one son who became the center of her life.  She was a devoted mother to her children and valued the simple but everlasting things in life; love, honor and integrity.  She took pride in her work ethic, a value that she imparted to her children when she worked at the Central Kitchen at the Laredo Independent School District and at Gateway Transfer Inc.

From her we learned the lasting legacy of a mother’s love and sacrifice.  We ate the wonderful meals that she cooked for us.  We learned the patience, peace and meticulous detail that the art of knitting bestows.  We learned of her passion for tennis, the Olympics and victories of Las Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara.  We listened to her and her siblings partake in the tradition of the “albur” and how they weaved language into humorous wordplay.  We and others marveled at her mental agility and her gift for finding laughter when life dealt tribulations.

We joined in her love of the music of Elvis Presley and Luis Miguel.

She inspired us to pursue an education so that we could be self-reliant and independent.  We respected her decision to never remarry, because she wanted to make sure that her children were protected and nurtured.  We watched her develop a relationship with her granddaughter Ashley that grew from the blessing of a doting grandmother to a partnership filled with joyous celebrations and memories.

But what we will take with us forever are the memories of the wonderful poems that she handwrote for us.  It was this gift that allowed us to celebrate her wit, her insight, her intelligence and the craft of words and ideas.

She was revered for the wonderful “Calaveras” that she would write during “El Dia De Los Muertos” where she feted presidents, national figures, co-workers, friends and family.  Her altars were renown, and her family carried on the tradition when she could no longer fashion these tributes to the family and friends who had passed.

Martha is survived by her children Dolores “Lola” Quesada, Maria Teresa Quesada, and Frank (Ana) Quesada, grandchildren Ashley Marie (Daniel) Osborne, Frank Quesada Jr., Philip Quesada, and Julian Quesada, great-grandchildren Daniel J. Osborne Jr. and Dean E. Osborne and her brothers and sisters Maria Teresa (Jairo) Orostegui, Enriqueta Lara Ochoa, Maria Guadalupe Lara Ochoa, Luis Lara and Mario Lara.  She is also survived by her former husband George Quesada.

She was preceded in death by her parents Francisco Javier Lara Alvarez and Dolores Ochoa Cabezud, and her daughter Hilda Elena Quesada.

Special thanks to Dr. J.R. Garcia, Dr. Antonio Mancera, Regent Care Nursing Home staff and Cristina Coronado for the loving care provided to our dear mother.

My sincere condolences. I was thinking about her and thought I'd see if she was still living not knowing she had passed. I'd like express my deepest condolences to all the family. She was always very kind to me and accepted me for who I was at the time we met. She deeply care about all of us and her protection meant the world to me.

Reciban nuestras condolencias.
