Obituary

We mourn the passing of Mrs. Martha C. Narvaez, a cherished member of the Laredo community, on November 4, 2024. Known for her warmth and generosity, Martha made a lasting impact on all who knew her as the owner of Narvaez Flowers & Gift Shop.

Born in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Martha moved to the United States in the 1970s, seeking a better life for her children. Her journey was marked by resilience and a steadfast commitment to helping others.

Martha was a beacon of hope, providing support to cancer patients, students, and those in need. Her selfless contributions, often made anonymously, touched countless lives and enriched the community.

Her dedication to advocacy and service was recognized with numerous awards. Martha’s involvement in initiatives like serving the elderly community was recognized by the City of Laredo where they dedicated an apartment complex for the elderly located in Downtown Laredo on Houston and Convent St. The dedicated building was named the Martha C. Narvaez City Hall Apartments.

Martha also held  the title of Co-Founder for The Pink To Do Breast Cancer Organization, where she served numerous cancer patients for over 14 years through her flower-shop.

One of her many contributions was to honor more than 100 mothers of American soldiers who fought in Iraq. They were the object of a heartfelt tribute from Narvaez Flowers & Gift Shop.

Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roberto Narvaez; her parents, Felipe Cortez Guzman and Angelina Silva de Cortez.

Martha is survived by her children; Mario (Nelly) E. Valdez, Veronica (Ruben) Moya, Jose (Claudia) Gilberto Valdez, Francisco Pancho A. Narvaez, and; her grandchildren; Julianna, Martha, Miguel Angel, Mario Jr., Briana, Ivanna, Ayleen, Regina, Sebastian; her great-grandchildren; Abraham, Alejandro, Matthew, Benjamin, Melody, Zoé, Sophia, Rachel, Nolan; and a community deeply inspired by her legacy of compassion.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Jose R Garcia, Dr. Eduardo Miranda, Dr. Ryan Huey from MD Anderson Cancer Center, Doctors Hospital Staff and Alfa Home Health & Hospice LLC for all of their assistance during this difficult time.

A celebration of her life will be held on November 9, 2024 from 5pm-9pm at Fred Dickey Funeral and Cremation Services. Martha C. Narvaez’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her business legacy will live on through her children and family managing Narvaez Flowers & Gift Shop. May she rest in eternal peace.

I had the pleasure of working with Martha Narvaez, and seeking her support, in many of the activities hosted by the Laredo Chamber of Commerce, during the many years I served the organization. She was always gracious and helpful, and willingly put her best efforts forward. But what I always found particularly admirable was her work and dedication to cancer patients and survivors. I remember occasions when she herself was visibly ill and yet was in no way deterred from her volunteer work. I hold very fond memories of Ms. Narvaez (as I always called her) and I will always cherish these. May the Lord hold her in His grace and bring comfort to the family.
