Maria Elena was called to rest in heavenly peace on October 6, 2024. Today, we come together to celebrate the beautiful life of Maria Elena Hernandez, a woman whose love and devotion to her family knew no bounds. Her love was a guiding light, shaping the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As a mother, wife, family member, friend, and mentor, Maria Elena touched the hearts of so many. Each person who crossed her path carried away a piece of her incredible graceful spirit. Maria Elena was the embodiment of love, support, and care.
For over 30 years, Maria Elena dedicated herself as a Family Service Coordinator for Webb County Head Start, finding immense joy in serving the families of Laredo. Her commitment to social and community service filled her with pride, and the wonderful colleagues she worked alongside became her second family.
Maria Elena truly understood the power of education and support for children and families. She always shared her foundational community service experiences, which she initiated during her time at the Laredo Webb County Health Department, and her work with the Migrant Programs, which inspired her love of social services work.
Her tireless efforts to uplift others are a legacy that will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She instilled in them the values of compassion and resilience, always encouraging them to stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
We will deeply miss Maria Elena’s heartfelt words of wisdom, witty remarks, and warm encouragement. Her vibrant energy and comforting presence brought joy to every gathering and lit up our lives. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
As we honor her memory, let us embrace the beautiful qualities she shared with us and carry on her legacy of love and kindness. Maria Elena inspired countless individuals to persevere through life’s challenges, always reminding us to hold onto our faith in God. Psalm 91:4-6
Maria Elena Hernandez is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Raymundo Hernandez Jr., and their children: Melissa (Orlando) Rodriguez, Monica (Gerardo) Calderon, Martha D. Hernandez, and Raymundo (Emma) Hernandez III. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Kimberly N. Rodriguez (Librado Galvan Jr), Orlando Rodriguez Jr. (Janelle Vasquez), Didi Rodriguez, Mia Rodriguez, Gerardo Calderon Jr., Manuel Ramos III, Giselle Ramos, Giana Denise Ramos, Maricruz Calderon, Raymundo Hernandez IV, and Jaqueline Trujillo. Her great-grandchildren are Audrina Rodriguez, Catalina Galvan, and Delilah Rose Rodriguez.
We will forever hold and cherish all the wonderful moments we lived by your side, Mom. We love you, Mom. May you rest in heavenly peace. “ Her fight was our fight.”
The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday, October 10, 2024 in the Angelus Chapel at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation services, where chapel doors will open at 10:00 am. Interment will follow to the Laredo City Cemetery.
