Obituary

Maria Angela Velasquez was delivered peacefully into the hands of our Lord on July 12, 2021 where she was surrounded by her loving family.  “Gela” as she was known by all who loved her dearly was a caring daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt.

Gela spent her young adulthood as a dedicated employee of S. H. Kress for over 20 years. She went on to be a devoted employee of Kmart until her retirement at the age of 62.

She served our Lord by being a proud Eucharistic Minister at San Luis Catholic Church under the leadership of Pastor Juan Francisco Muñoz.

She was a woman of God and has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by many friends and especially her numerous family members.

She was born in Nuevo Laredo, but resided in Laredo for all of her 86 years. She loved traveling all over the United States of America and several parts of Mexico. She treasured spending time with family and adored dancing with her six handsome brothers and many nephews at every family gathering and special occasion.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Florencio Isabel and Maria Toribia (Garza) Velasquez; her siblings: Felix Velasquez, Sr. (Emma), Juan De Dios Velasquez, Sr. (Cristina †), Raul Diego Velasquez (Gracie), Alicia V. Saenz (Emilio); nephews: Juan de Dios Velasquez, Jr., David Velasquez, Mark Anthony Velasquez; and great-nephew: Francisco Javier Juarez-Velasquez.

She is survived by her siblings Jesus Francisco Velasquez (Mary †), Vidal Velasquez, Sr. (Genoveva), Jose Luis Velasquez (Irene), and Maria Guadalupe Velasquez as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation services that will be held at Fred Dickey Funeral & Cremation Services from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2021. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A holy mass will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021 at San Luis Rey Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow to the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
